I had to laugh at this question in this weeks' TVGuide "Ask Matt."  It's like this girl didn't realize that HER shipper bias was obvious.  Look, like the vampire you like, but these "my vampires are better than your vampires" things inevitably  boil down to -- y'know, they're BOTH killers!  Sheesh!  Did you miss where Stefan was decapitating co-eds?  And yes, Damon is a serial killer.  Guess what?  Neither is a white knight.  You're watching a vampire show! (And a vampire show that kills red shirts faster than Star Trek).

The soap box you're standing on is an illusion.

(I personally think Elena should choose "three-way" because... well, why not?  It's not like there are moral boundaries on the show to begin with, so just do it already).

Anyway, the qutestion that was posed that amused me:

Question: With Glee's move to Thursdays, I'm worried it's going to take away from The Vampire Diaries' already small audience. Do you think Glee could case TVD to tank? If it does, do you think The CW will be smart enough to move it rather than cancel it? I watch both shows but would definitely pick TVD if I could only save one from a burning building. :)

And if you feel like answering a plot-driven question, what do you think the odds are of Elena ending the series with Damon? I worry that the writers will do that to appease the 12-year-old Delena "shippers" who tweet their faces off every week, but think that would be the dumbest thing ever, considering Damon is still a loose cannon who tries to control Elena ("for her own good"), despite his sporadic heroic moments. Did the writers not watch Season 1? I'd say Stefan "consumed" Elena at one point as well. It's called infatuation — and sooner or later it wears off like new car smell. And unlike Stefan, who shares Elena's love for literature, journaling, etc. when her life is not in grave danger, Damon seems to have zero in common with Elena aside from being hot. Several people have become vampires on this show, and none of them had their personalities drastically altered — even Stefan and Damon seem to be themselves in flashbacks from long ago. So for Elena to suddenly (or not-so-suddenly) go for Damon after wanting Stefan for three seasons straight would just seem like an incredibly cheap (and pretty icky when you recall who has slept with whom) plot device to me. — Jennifer

And she's being entirely logical and objective about it. *snerk*

I liked this ep. I'm always a sucker for mythology episodes, even (it seems) rather ludicrous ones. :)

So now we know the origin of vampires in TVD.

And we know that brotherly bond is strong. :)

Hey, Elena, are you listening to yourself as you lecture Jeremy? 'Cause it seems to me that you should take your own advice.

Just sayin'...

Meanwhile, over on Community... Annie, your scary story won. It was the eyeball thing that did it. Yikes!

Also, watching Sweet Genius and I've got to know... how in the hell does a panna cotta set up under that sort of time limit? It makes me quite suspicious of production hanky panky.

In other news, I have a cold. It sucks.

Boy, reading this TVGuide "Ask Matt" question brought on a sense of deja vu:

Question: I had a question about the concept of the bad boy. I watch The Vampire Diaries religiously, and I enjoy the character of Damon. I understand that he is a vampire and his very nature is evil, and I also understand that he longs to be more caring and loving, especially with Elena. However, I remain convinced that Elena's best love interest is Stefan. Even though Damon has shown some redeeming qualities, he mostly has tried to kill everyone Elena loves (sometimes accomplishing it), used her friend for blood and sex and forced her to drink his blood so she would turn into a vampire if she died. I am not sure how anyone could root for them as a couple. This trend of wanting the heroine of a show to be with the bad boy instead of the decent guy is upsetting. We see it on True Blood and that show from last year, Life Unexpected. I think it shows young girls that you should strive to be with the bad boy because he is more exciting and overlook all the horrible things he has done to you and others. People may think Stefan is boring, but he respects Elena and would never do anything to intentionally hurt her despite his vampire nature. — Rachel

Okay, here's the thing. I don't have a horse in the "Who wins Sookie" or the "Who wins Elena" debate. Either way, eh. Whatever as far as I'm concerned. And the truth is I seem to like Bill more than most of fandom does... and I've gotten the impression that I like Stefan better than most of fandom does as well.

But, doing a compare and contrast of "my vampire is better than your vampire" contest is always ridiculous be it Stefan/Damon, Bill/Eric, or Angel/Spike. If you want to compare crimes... they're both awful! They have both done terrible things. A whole hell of a lot of them. Just go ahead and admit that you have a preference. The opinion, is based on preference. It just is. Neither are going to win the "perfect boyfriend" award... nor should they because these shows are based on conflict. So no, the one who broods artistically over his sins and cast as hero isn't 'better' than the one who quips sarcastic and hides a woobie heart and is cast as anti-hero. They're both pretty traditional character archetypes and in these cases -- they're both vampires! Okay? Pick the one you like, but a complimentary 'mine-is-the-bestest-and-most-moral vampire' gift with purchase soap box doesn't come with it.

Just sayin'

Or, to quote Roush's reply: "...if you're looking at these characters to be role models for the young audience, you're barking up the wrong genre."

(I also kind of laugh at what qualified as a 'bad boy' for the questioner if it's including Life Unexpected's Baz... whose great sin as far, as I can tell, was to be a self-absorbed jock in high school and lackadaisical bar owner as an adult... one who willingly took on co-parenting responsibility for a 16 year old child that he before never knew that he had. So... not all that 'bad' is what I'm sayin', not when it's placed alongside a couple hundred years of wanton murder...)

Well, that was fun.  What's a senior prank night without some murder and a suicide?

Heh.

I have to say that I love how on TVD they're always looking for some half-forgotten tomb or mystic artifact and having to search through some ancient but strangely accessible grimoire.   At any rate:

* Hee!  Evil Stefan.  I could be on board with that.
* Oh no, I'm not sure what to do with this development with Tyler.  Stay adorable Tyler!
* Glad that weight belt came off easy, because otherwise he would've been screwed.
* Klaus is hot.  Evil... but hot.
* I wanted more Tyler/Caroline.
* I don't ask that TVD make sense, just that it be fun.  It was zippy fun last night, so I'm good.

* The Vampire Diaries: Tyler/Caroline FTW.  Like those two together. And Klaus is kind of hot (though evil).

* The Secret Circle:  And suddenly, I'm nostalgic for the old BBC series "Hex".  Am I crazy or is there some similarity bits and pieces of Hex... only sans Thelma the lesbian ghost... who was actually the best part of that show.  TSC and Hex both even have its lead character named Cassie.

* Out of curiosity over the whole 'reboot' nonsense, I looked at Days of Our Lives today for the return of my old teen crush Jack Deveraux (I realize that the actor has been ill, but please, MA ease up on the macrobiotic diets a bit and eat a sandwich... and SHAVE)... and OMG, Jennifer Rose Horton, you've grown insufferable.  But, aw, there's Abby Deveraux, all grown up and not at all SORASed.  God, that makes me feel old.
