Great post! Very helpful advice, and very readable.
I do have two comments:
1) vitamin D is fat soluble so it's best absorbed with fats. Probably not an issue with cod liver oil, but if you just take the pills they don't absorb well unless you take them with something that contains a little fat. in my personal experience (and I'm a fair-skinned native of a very rainy city) I was frustrated that my levels weren't rising so I started paying attention to that-- greek yoghurt or butter on my toast made a significant difference.
2) be cautious of omega 3 oils. I was part of a Mayo study about 15 years ago looking at omega oils in kidney disease. (there's good evidence that they help in diabetic kidney disease; they were looking at my FSGS) It was a disaster; I had to drop out as my blood basically stopped clotting. I know this happened to a bunch of us in that study. Mayo stopped the whole study mid way for that reason! Omega 3 oils in combination with other over the counter or Rx drugs that act as blood thinners has as least anecdotally been linked to increased stroke risk. People are frequently not aware of the interactions in all the supplements they take. Which actually supports your "nutrition should be from food" point pretty well!
