* I actually have something non-negative to say about a BtVS comic -- finally, a Spike/Dawn moment! Aw, Spike flying half-way around the world to Little Bit's deathbed. (Hey, at least it was something).

* Finished re-reading The Great Gatsby last night. Funny how relevant much of it still is. The rich and the hypocritical racist reactionaries never really change, do they?

* Am working on plans to organize my closet. My closet needs lots of re-organizing. It's a cluttered mess.

* Game of Thrones - Granny Tyrell rocks as always. Gendry has now officially become Edric Storm (I actually approve of this. I don't see any reason why Edric's story couldn't be folded into Gendry's. Robert really didn't need two surviving bastard sons, so Gendry pulling double duty works fine. Bonus, it has me looking forward to Davos's plot... which doesn't happen often). The previews scare me though. They aren't really going to show that in Theon's plot, are they?! ::shiver::

* TWOP's Mad Men thread always makes me Grrrr!

Jeesh, people, the misogyny on the show is to analyze not to support! I swear to God, and it is no exaggeration:

-- A couple of weeks ago. Joan fires a secretary for open insubordination and lying. She's then publically reamed for 'going beyond her position' by an underling, overturned by the partners, and the TWOP thread spent days on "How DARE, Joan! Who does she think she is? She had no right!" (at that time, I postulated that had Don done the exact same thing, fandom would be rushing to proclaim how right he was...)

How right I was...

-- Don, in a fit of pique over having his authority questioned by a client, unilaterally dumps the client while giving him the proverbial middle finger, causing significant financial upset to the firm, and possibly endangering the finances full stop (had other characters not pulled in a new client). Joan tells Don off for his never, ever thinking of the consequences, and just doing whatever the hell he wants. Fandom's reaction: "How DARE, Joan! That client was questioning Don's authority! He should NOT put up with that. He was 100% correct in what he did! Who does Joan think she is?!"

So, in summary, Joan fires a secretary for insubordination - how dare she! Don fires a client for questioning his authority, costing the firm $10,000,000 in billing and it's 'atta-boy! How DARE Joan!"

Grr! Mad Men thread.

It's funny how everything Don does is somehow defendable. His affairs -- always his wives' faults. 'Cause the fans hate his wives. And he's justified in being angry for his wife's stage-kissing a man when acting. How is he supposed to react? (By being a massive hypocrit when he's REALLY having an affair???) Peggy gets angry with Don and she's not properly appreciating him...

It just goes on and on. Every time I read that thread, it makes me angry.

I want Peggy to succeed. Joan to make millions. Trudy to find a fantastic guy. Roger to never (really) change. And Don to fall on his ass with no one else cleaning up his mess for him. Oh, and Megan can kick him to the curb at that exact moment too. I hope in her fictional soap career that she becomes Diedre Hall and Susan Lucci.

The spell that created her is unwinding (Faith and Angel have already forgotten that she ever existed in the first place. Spike, however, had a more real relationship with her, so he still remembers, caught the gist of the situation as soon as Faith and Angel forgot, and dropped everything to head to SF.

Xander, meanwhile, has gone off the deep-end and thrown in with the Big Bads who want to re-boot time (like that ever works), and to further that goal is leading Willow and Buffy on a wild goose chase to the Deeper Well. Meaning that Spike arrives in SF after Buffy/Scoobs have left (sparing us any awkward Spuffy).

Dawn, losing her own memories as others lose their memory of her, is left with only 3rd tier comic characters and Andrew until Spike arrives. Dawn asks, "Do I know you?" and Spike replies, "Better than you think, luv." ( don't remember the exact quote but that's close).

So, I gather Spike is with Dawn for the climax of this benighted comic. But, at least, we get Spike/Dawn face time.

I sincerely hope they don't show what I think we saw in the previews. This Theon arc is just NOT good (and how are they going to carry through ANOTHER season!) They should've bitten the bullet and just had Alfie Allen in like 3-4 episodes this season, like they did with NCW last season, IMO. The torture is just repetitive and gross now.

Well, as long as they've explained why the supposed lack of magic only affects Dawn and not, say, every other magically enhanced or animated character.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll be rooting for them.

I still haven't really gotten started on this year's Mad Men (my Mondays are spent on Game of Thrones) so I don't know the particulars, but fandom's willingness to forgive Don anything really irks. I just hope the writers aren't too aware of it.

'Lack of magic' isn't even slowing down Angel's latest insane, narcissistic plan to resurrect Giles...er... without magic.

I heard an interview with Benioff and Weiss on the local NPR station a couple of days ago, and what I took from it is that they're still flying by the seats of their pants with this series. Apparently, Tim Van Patten saved S1 from being a total hash, AND they filmed Jaime & Cersei's initial scenes without establishing that they're brother and sister! Duh. Someone fixed that for them, to their relief.

Also, Martin himself foxes them, they forget things from the books (oops!) and decide that things "would be cooler" if they were changed/amalgamated/omitted. Some of this may be economic, but apparently some of it isn't (like the "sexposition," which they seem to relish and promote even without HBO's or Adam Friedberg's directives).

All this is to say: don't expect the Theon torture to end anytime soon, because it may be B&W's nod to the Saw films. And, ugh.
