Warm Bodies - The Feel Good Zombie Movie
Watched "Warm Bodies" on OnDemand tonight.
I read the book last winter so I pretty much knew the story, though there were some changes in plot from the book. Even the end changed a little. Still, I enjoyed both. It is, strangely enough, a feel good zombie movie:)
In the book and the movie "zombie," while actually being zombies, also functions a metaphor for disconnection and cynicism (more explicitly so in the book, I thought). So Warm Bodies is more of a story of reconnection and rebirth, when "R" saves a potential victim rather than kill her and wackiness (and some oddball romance) ensues, aka -- a feel good zombie movie (who would'da thunk it?)
It's the anti-apocalypse. (Friendship, compassion, and love reawaken humanity).
Though they did change the ending (to a happier one) for the movie. (It's essentially the same, but they allowed one character who succumbed to despair to choose the opposite, and I noticed that they did sort of a symbolic baptism/rebirth that was staged differently in the novel).
It also maintained much of the humor from the book (and I did laugh at the "Pretty Woman" bit.)
If you're someone like myself who can't handle zombie stuff, Warm Bodies is not even the tiniest bit scary. (And, seriously, I CANNOT watch "The Walking Dead". It freaks me right out), On the other hand, if you like your zombie tales dystopian and terrifying, then Warm Bodies will probably be somewhat cheesy and too optimistically fluffy.
