Oh my, this cast is soooo pretty. All those close-ups are distracting because they are so pretty. Even in a bad colonial wig, Tom Mison/Ichabod is distractingly pretty. And Abbie is gorgeous. This show is so easy on the eyes.

Plus, Ichabod/Abbie are ADORABLE together. Love Abbie's sarcasm and heart.  Wonderful female lead.  And that scene at the baseball field with Abbie and Ichabod yelling at the umpire was funny and cute with just the right touch of pathos in Ichabod saying for a moment it felt like he had a place and Abbie saying that he did.
(The baseball scene reminded me just a bit of the baseball scene in The X-files with Mulder teaching Scully to bat. Oh what a lovely scene that was).

Ooh! And new supporting players are faves from other shows:

James Frain aka Cromwell from The Tudors, Crazy-ass-crazed vampire Franklin Mott from True Blood, The Kingmaker from The White Queen) has arrived with shades of moral ambiguity.

And John Noble aka Walter Bishop of Fringe ! (A fave Walter moment... delicious, strawberry-flavored death!)

Unfortunately, I see no connection or real substance in the Katrina/Ichabod thing. I mean love across space and time should have a lot of chemistry and instead I just... don't care. If they want us to care about Katrina, they're going to have to do a flashback episode of Katrina so that she becomes a rounded character with her own history and motivation. Right now she just seems to be an accessory. (Kudos to Jenny Mills for pointing out that Katrina is awfully stingy with pertinent information because... YEAH!)

The Mills sisters, however, are great fun and I like that they've already developed a nice sister dynamic of snarking and disagreeing with one another but you can also tell they love each other too.

Thus far, I'm quite happy with the way that this show is developing.  (And since these were the folks from Fringe, I have confidence in their always trying.  Fringe had missteps along the way, but it was clear that they were always trying and always concerned with giving fans what they wanted, thus I have confidence that this team isn't predisposed to arbitrarily yanking fans' chains just because they can, and that they will try to keep things interesting).

And did I meantion that Ichobod is terribly pretty?

I mainlined the first five episodes this weekend. The premise had seemed so ridiculous I had not watched. But your posts convinced me to give it a try, so, thank you!

Ichobod is completely pretty. And I love the physical contrast between him and Abby, which in its way, just highlights the sameness of their intelligence and morality.

And may I say I like that the good guys are sincerely trying to be good, often at great risk to themselves? They are not perfect moral paragons, but they are trying to do the right thing.

I think part of the problem with K/I is that for the first five episodes we only see Katrina mourning, trapped, and distraught. We need more flashbacks to happy Katrina.

I agree with you on all points. (The only thing that disappointed me about Sin-Eater was that Katrina still didn't click for me, even though I intellectually think she's cool.)

And Ichabod is almost ridiculously pretty. :)

Yeah, when I first read the premise I thought insta-flop. Luckily, nothing else was on TV the night that it premiered.

It was such utterly ridiculous fun with likable leads that the fun factor won me over. On paper, though, whoo-boy.

And agreed. They need to do a Katrina background episode so that we have some idea of who she really is as an individual. Without knowing her it's difficult to care all that much about the relationship with Ichabod, especially when watching Ichabod and Abbie bounce off each other is so much fun.

I'm confused by the show's choice to recast Katrina from the actress in the pilot. I think Mison and she had great chemistry. I don't even know her name, but I felt she was very evocative. Whereas I find the current Katrina a bit wooden in comparison.

Abbie Mills continues to delight me. And I find it so amazing how Nicole Beharie has a million different tones to convey humor and sarcasm. Her delivery of ~words~ is so original, I can't think of anyone else who expresses herself with so much dimension.

My guess is that the writers wanted this to be an epic love story. Katrina risked all to save Ichabod, Ichabod finds a way to release Katrina, they live happily ever after once the apocalypse is stopped.

Position of the Katrina/Ichabod kiss in the credits confirms that for me.

However, that relationship is DOA. We are six episodes in and if the audience isn't feeling it yet, we're not going to. Tom Mison could have chemistry with a cellar door but even he can't make it happen.

Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Spike, Spike/Dru -- they only took minutes to establish.

The problem is compounded by the off the charts chemistry between Abbie and Ichabod.

The writers are going to have to do some re-thinking. Personally, they need to plan for Katrina to sacrifice herself for Abbie and Ichabod in about season 3.

Heh. Well, remember that she has to struggle to find a place to meet with the Witnesses where Moloch can't immediately find her and interfere. She's limited to when they sleep or are near death.

But girl needs to deliver essential info asap. Don't buy the lede, Katrina! :-)

I saw an interview with NB where she basically said she had the same reaction to seeing the script.

We need to form a Sleepy Hollow discussion community. I'm stuck right now with TWOP and you know how aggravating that is!

I don't think we're meant to care. I feel like the Katrina thing is more of an illusion--the ship they're driving toward is clearly Abbie/Ichabod, and Katrina is just an apparition that Ichabod is meant to save from limbo, but eventually has to let go and move firmly into the present in which he finds himself.

Yeah the chemistry is heavily weighted toward Abbie/Ichabod.

I wonder if they aren't doing something akin to what they did on Fringe where in the beginning it looked like they were setting up Olivia/John (who also wasn't on very much) as opposed to Olivia/Peter but the real plan in retrospect was clearing Olivia/Peter (as John wasn't even a good guy).

I sort of hope so. I don't have anything AGAINST Katrina, I just don't really have a reason to root for her either. At this point Jenny has had more development, and I don't think she's been on any more than Katrina has.

Heh, apparently there wasn't a recast? Just a make-up change that made her appear a bit different (pilot vs. second ep), plus different hair coloring. A few other people were confused, too, so I'm not totally alone! :p

So who knows? I guess I liked when they were more dramatically stylizing Katrina as otherworldly/witchy.
