* Nice weather this weekend, so that was nice. I even dragged out spring clothes and went to Old Navy to buy spring t-shirts.

* Finally saw 12 Years a Slave. Heartwrenching story, but I see why Gravity won more of the technical awards. 12 years was told in a very straight foward format (which was appropriate to the story). You could tell that it was actually filmed in the South because the landscape and housing looked recognizable. That's the way those old houses look, rather than as Tara. Though I question whether any plantation house had the pig pen in the front yard. Began to speculate that it was a production choice made both for metaphorical reasons and cost. Those plantations had plenty of land. That was the point. They wouldn't have had (or have needed to have had) pigs in the front yard (nor would many of the less prosperous plantations have been painted white. That was an an expensive thing to do in those days.)

Storywise, it's all incredibly horrifying and heartbreaking.

* Finally saw Star Trek: Into Darkness. Other than some amusing shout-outs (Chekov, do NOT change into a red shirt!), I felt oddly detatched from this one. It wasn't that I disliked the point of it or anything, I just think that, despite trying really, really hard with Kirk/Spock, that they didn't capture the relationships as well. I mean by the time that Spock died/was resurrected in the original timeline, there was a ton of background between these two characters. It felt a bit rushed the way it takes place in the reboot. It's relatively enjoyable, but... eh.

* Forgot to mention that I saw The Impossible last week. Liked that one and cried over that one too. Seriously, kids running towards Daddy or a small boy trying incredibly hard to be brave and grown up for his horribly injured mother is all heart-tugging material. As far as I was concerned the 12 year old stole that movie.

* Watched the premiere of Resurrection Gave me LOST vibes. It was a tad slow, but I'm interested enough to check in next week.

* Saw the Once Upon A Time 2nd half of Season 3 premiere. I rather enjoyed the Emma/David scene, the Snow White/Regina scene, and the Hook/Emma scenes. And I'm sorry I went to TWOP to read reactions because I swear that they suck the joy out of everything. Give the hobby-horses a rest, folks. The show is not going to hold grudges as long as you people do, nor is it going to hype-rfocus on whatever detail you are personally obsessed by (and there are an array of preferred obsessions, hence why it is IMPOSSIBLE for the show writers to satisfy ALL OF YOU). The writers are going to try to MOVE THE PLOT. Fanfic is great for getting long drawn-out moments of whatever bit of minutea that you personally obsess over, the show is. not. going. to. do. that. It's going to try to move plot for a bunch of characters as they have limited air time and a LOT of characters to service. (And they need to get over wishing Henry dead. They are not going to ax the KID in a family show by Disney! Just aren't. He's here to stay. Stop bitching about how the kid 'ruins everything'.)

Errr... *ahem* I got a bit opinionated there. So, anyway...
*  I liked Snow convincing Regina that pulling out her heart over losing Henry would be the WRONG way to go (seriously, Regina.  Remember your own mother.  I can understand with the loss, choosing to 'go heartless' but Snow was right in that being the wrong direction.

*  I also liked Snow saying that they needed to unite for the 'good of the Kingdom'.  I'm for there not being backsliding.  It's time to move the story on from a Regina/Snow vendetta, so I was pleased to see that Neverland truce continue.

*  And I Heh, with Regina being in bitchy queenly mode when meeting Robin Hood at last.  I've been looking forward to the pitfalls of this one, and hope that he doesn't fall quickly or easily for her.  She's still going to have to change in order to merit a 'hero' such as Robin  (though I do NOT understand why Robin is neutral to pro-Rumple.  As far as Robin knows, Rumple was a guy who mostly tortured him).

*  Hook gave some good puppy-dog-eyes over Emma.  I'm feeling that pairing a lot more than I used to.

* Loved the Emma/David scene where they each realized that the other remembered, and they hugged.  More Father/Daughter scenes please!

Revenge is now duller than dishwater. I couldn't even be bothered to pay attention. Frankly, I do not care. Everyone can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.

I swear, I got teary during the Regina/Snow scene with the heart. I am so looking forward to Regina/Robin.

Could Hook be any more Spike-like? It's the same dynamic for me: I hate her but want him with her because he wants her.

I really do love Neal and kinda would ship him with Belle, except I feel the same way about Rumple as I do Hook/Spike, and whatever he wants, I want him to have. :)

Wicked Queen's voice is so soprano compared to everyone else's, especially Lana Parilla's. It's distracting. Kind of weird how I associate low female voice with villainous female.

*Hmmm have both 12 Years a Slave and The Impossible in my netflix queue. Currently going to watch Catching Fire (Hunger Games Part II tonight). Having not seen 12 Years or Gravity and based primarily on the reviews, it made sense why Gravity got all the technical and directing awards - it's basically all direction and technique. And Gravity got best director for the same reason Ang Lee got it for Life of Pi - the ability to do something new and innovative with 3D film.

*Agreed on Star Trek Into Darkness - it just lacked the emotional humor and gravitas of Wrath of Khan, in part because neither actor had built up the wealth of back-story that Shatner and Lemoy had. Nor for that matter the actor who had originally played Khan in the series. In some respects they were mimicking prior performances as opposed to creating them. Which is why - I'm not certain film reboots work - particularly on cult icons like Star Trek.

*Regarding OUAT. I don't know how you tolerate let alone follow TWOPY threads. ;-) I do agree - if you don't like the kid, you are going to have to find a way to get past that or just stop watching, because the kid is central to the series and they aren't killing him off or growing him up rapidly. Whining about it incessantly online is just a waste of time and energy.

*Agreed on everything you wrote above about OUAT. I rather liked the David/Emma, Snow/Regina, and Henry/Emma scenes. Also found Robin/Snow and Robin/Regina by play interesting. (Although I did wonder what happened to Mulan? Did she get tired of being part of Robin's band?)

Also, they appear to be building the Hook/Emma relationship this season in a different way. So it could prove to be interesting. (I think Baelfire (and possibly Belle) might be partially responsible for the curse - since Belle and Bae were discussing how they might use Rumple's magic to find a way to get back to Storybrook. Which could put an interesting spin on that triangle.

* I've admittedly not seen the last three episodes of Revenge, including last night's episode as of yet - in part because it's boring me. It's become rather repetitive. Emily plot revenge. The Grayson's figure it out and side-step her, someone innocent or not as nasty as the Grayson's gets caught in the line of fire, the Grayson go after Emily, Emily side-steps the Grayson's, someone innocent gets caught in the cross-fire, rinse and repeat. Bored now. Honestly, wrap things up already writers. You've drug this story out too thin. It should have ended ages ago. (I wish they'd gone with their original idea, which is a "Revenge" anthology series. A new story every one-two years. But they got distracted by the Daniel/Emily and Jack/Emily shippers.)

I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave yet, but I read an article on the historical accuracy of it, and apparently it follows the book (written by Northrup) extremely closely, with very little embellishment or changes by Hollywood. Don't know about the pigpen in the front yard, though...

I enjoyed the season opening for OUAT. I was glad for the memory potion, YAY, all things squared away pretty quickly. I was sorry her boyfriend turned into a flying monkey, though, because, yay, Christopher Gorham!

I enjoyed Into Darkness, but I know what you mean. There wasn't the HISTORY with this Kirk & Spock.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Regina/Robin. Hope it's fun. And I do enjoy the Regina/Snow thing as well. I also like the rare occasions that Charming gets to be Daddy.

Could Hook be any more Spike-like?

He very definitely seems related!

Which is also why I hesitate so much in shipping him. Seriously, I have Post-Traumatic Joss Syndrome (yes, STILL!) where I basically think that if I commit to a ship, it will only be royally, massively SCREWED.

*sigh*
