shipperx: (MadMen-Peggy and Joan)
[personal profile] shipperx
Long weekend with Memorial Day. Did very little reading, but lots of house work.

-- Bought tomato plants and a mandevilla for mother's yard.  (I won't be doing much with mine this year as I'm spending a lot of time with her and, still, for the time being, living with her.)

-- We did lay most of the flooring in the guest bedroom.  I want to repaint too.  I think the more different it looks the easier it will be (it is the room where Dad fell and died.  God, it still hurts terribly to write that).

-- I was also reworking the closet in there since that's the room where I'm staying at moms, so I built a shelving unit for it, raised the rods, and built a trouser rack much like the one I have at my home.  I was having to use Dad's power tools.  It's weird.  It both makes me feel close to him and hurts more because construction was Dad's *thing*.  He wasn't a golfer or a reader.  He built things (and watched football).  He was a craftsman.  He built mom's sun porch.  He built my bed (and my nephews' crib and their beds when growing up  {all solid mohogany}.  My sister still has those too.  They are forever keepsakes.), my bookcases, a desk I have in storage, my swing, and even my tv stand at my home. So it's a rather bittersweet pain going through his tools.

--  Puppy gets a haircut this week, and BOY does she need it.  We've definitely switched into full summer mode and it's been in the 90s the last few days.  Poor baby has a ton of hair at the moment and needs to be shorn for summer.

-- Watched the Mad Men "finale" (weird with the super short 'season' that's really one season split in two).  Then I get all flabberghasted at the unconcious yet overt sexism that's always on display in the TWOP thread.  Anyway, I actually liked the Mad Men episode.

--  Audible just delivered the new Dresden Files book. (I had it on pre-order) So it must have been released today!
