Game Of Thrones

Wow, I did not remember the trial by combat ending in quite that way in the book. (Did it, and I didn't remember?  Probably did.  I'm very good at blocking such things out.)

So, last night's GOT:

- Liked Sansa's transformation.

- Liked Arya's laughing when they arrive at the Aerie (or however the hell it's spelled) and started laughing at Lysa having been killed before she arrived.

- Knew Oberyn was too cocky about it, but still enjoyed his Inigo Montoya (sp) act. And noted that he wasn't done implicating Tywin either.

-- Liked the Tyrion/Jaime scenes.

Other than the ending, bit of a slow episode overall.

Oh, and was that a MAMMOTH FOOT I saw in the trailer??!  I want those mammoths, damn it!  MAMMOTHS!!!

Yeah, I figured Oberyn was done for the second he started doing a note-perfect Mandy Patinkin impression. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Which only goes to prove that there are still people in Westeros who didn't get the point of what happened to Ned Stark.

Arya's laughing fit was perfect. How else are you supposed to react in that situation? Kafka thought his stories were funny as hell too.

It did strike me that Dany is more merciful though, because Jorah got to depart with his head.

Also loved Sansa's Mockingjay outfit.

Unfortunately, the combat ended the same way in the book. Seeing it recreated so faithfully on screen, though... Eurgh.

I hope it means no more Gregor Clegane and his antics, and him-as-zombie idea won't make it to the show.
They cut most of the Biter, Rouge and Vargo Hoat stuff, so why not that too.

Otherwise, liked the same things as you. :)

Sansa transformation was chilling and intriguing, I think they are hinting for darker turn for her more strongly than in the book.

Arya's laughing was genius. So I guess she'll just turn around and ride away now...

And I guess the next show will be a big battle in the North. And the season will end in Ice, to follow the pattern of previous seasons (Fire-Ice-Fire-...).

Dunno. But I always suspected there was a long term set up in the Cersei Champion thing, though it's possible that monster is an entirely different monster.

(Which, BTW, still no sign of Cold Hands. I always thought there was a fair chance Cold Hands was the missing Uncle Stark).

I spoilered myself on the outcome of the fight so knew to look away the minute the Mountain turned out not to be dead after all.

Yuck!

And I'm going to miss Oberyn.

I really liked his character in the books too. His death was hard to take there as well, but I guess Tyrion couldn't win by the same means twice, so in retrospect it seemed inevitable.

And Ned Stark-like we someone is the hero, but it's not really that. It's more a lesson that the death of one 'enemy' spawns yet more enemies. Lannisters never seem to recognize what Margery (or was it Olenna?) once stated -- you're going to need allies, eventually. Alienate everyone and sooner or later, everyone is going to be out to get you.

The end of "A Storm of Swords" was continually hard to take, but action-filled.

Wonder whether it will end exactly the same. (I suspect that it will).

I remembered the Ingio Montoya speech from the books. Very curious as to what will happen next episode (the big events are always in episode 9) and what the last image of the season will be.

And I'm going to miss Oberyn.

I liked him, and not just because he's Eddie from "The Freshman" episode of BtVS. His paramour (what was her name again?) is also an actress I liked from Rome.

Yeah, Indira Verma is always good in everything. Hopefully that's not the last we'll see of Ellaria. On the other hand, I don't see Cersei dealing kindly with her.

Oberyn was in BtVS? I did not know that.

I had it up to here with Martin's undead characters. Looks like at some point he decided not to part with any character anymore, but he still wanted to kill them. Ok, 1-2 undead character I can stand, but there're too many now! Soon there will be no humans left (except Tyrion :D)).

I hope Undead!Gregor gets ditched, and Cersei's Champion will be someone else.

I actually am a believer in the "Sandor didn't die" conspiracy theory. It's the old soap opera axiom of if we didn't SEE someone die and there is no body, then the person is bound to still be living (unless he's Syrio the "Dancing Master"). :)

But isn't it universally accepted that Sandor is that monk whom Brienne meets at the isle near Saltpans? He lives, but he's out of the game (just like Hotpie), that's what I've thought.

That's what I think too, but I still think it'll show up somewhere. Seems something that was set up but never quite adequately finished.

I thought that the ending to Game of Thrones was amazing. I haven't read the books so I always get surprised. I knew that they were foreshadowing his death a lot in the episode. For example, when Sansa was talking about the death of her aunt, when little finger spoke to the little boy about the death of his mother, when the imp was talking about the death of his cousin and his way killing beatles, when Dyanarus was talking about the death of her husband and child, when Aria was talking about killing her enemies, and probably more that I don't remember. Besides they gave that guy a very long monologue and I was like, that guy is ganna die in the duel. You know what I mean, I know it's a bit scrambled and I never remember anyone's name.

I laughed so hard at the Hounds face after that long ass journey to get the ransom.

Over all, I've been feeling like the show has been missing something and I finally realized that Joffrey was a major part of the show.
