Totally ignoring the behind the scenes stuff that Wendy posted last week because I SO did not want to know that stuff. Anyway, I think they did a good job. It wasn't earthshattering or anything, but Friends just wasn't that kind of show. I think it's longevity was linked to the likability of the characters. So what we wanted for those characters is something where they we are left feeling that the characters will go on and be okay and they accomplished that. I hate it when shows go all high concept weirdness for a final ala Seinfeld or Mad about You. This wasn't all that different from any other Friends season finale. . .and that's okay. It had a few laughs, a lot of affection, and an acceptable ending. It's enough.

Still have Soapnet on my cable package and tonight when cooking dinner, I left it on that channel. So let me see, Jack died last october so Jennifer is 7+ months pregnant and still not showing. Oh, and how can I ignore Marlena with the karate chop in a prison brawl. Gawd. Talk about farce! It was hilarious! (And for brits lik Deborah... no, they didn't mean for it to be. The show is just that STUPID). Speaking of stupid, I'm STILL hearing the rumor that all the dead on DULL aren't going to be dead. Hell, even TV Guide mentioned it this week. So...um... let me get this straight. Jack was killed. He was on life support. They donated his organs. AND his ghost revisted Jennifer after his death. . . but Jack isn't dead. And apparently after reading someone else's rant on the subject Roman returned to make love to Kate as a ghost. And yet Roman isn't dead either? How freaking STUPID is this show supposed to be?! Of course anyone who has watched DULL in the last 15 years gave up on the show making the least bit of sense, and DULL fans long passed the point where they'll accept any excuse as long as they have the characters people give a damn about. . .but this is just so far beyond stupid that it's nearly impossible to believe. I keep expecting the "and all the dead aren't dead" thing to be revealed to be a hoax because there's no way for it to be true. It's just too stupid. Then about once every couple of months I glimpse the show as I did tonight, ( Marlena in a prison brawl doing karate -- bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! ) and I realize how stupid it is to think that sanity and logic even factor into this.

Okay, if anyone can take offense on Spike's part, it's me. But you know, every now and then you just have to lighten up! It was a farce and it was meant to be a farce. Yeah it took the wind out of Angel's and Spike's sails... but sometimes it's good to do that. I know the angst of their journeys. But it sort of reminded me when from time to time they'd make fun of Mulder and Scully on the X-Files.

BLAINE FAULKNER: Because the proper authorities showed up with a couple of men in black. (The "men in black," Scully and Mulder, get out of their car, carrying flashlights, and slowly walk towards him.) One of them was disguised as a woman, but wasn't pulling it
off. Like, her hair was red but it was a little TOO red, you know? And the other one... the tall, lanky one... his face was so blank and expressionless, he didn't even seem human. I, I think he was a mandroid.

Also from the classic ep "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" which skewered Mulder's pretentions with:

JOSE CHUNG: Seeking the truth about aliens means a perfunctory nine-to-five job to some. For although Agent Diana Lesky is noble spirit and pure of heart, she remains, nevertheless, a federal employee. (Scully glares at the book. Cut to Mulder's apartment. Mulder lies in his bed, shirt off, watching television. He changes the channel. Chung continues his monologue.)

As for her partner, Reynard Muldrake... that ticking timebomb of insanity... his quest into the unknown has so warped his psyche, one shudders to think how he receives pleasures from life.

Now, that was classic XF. TGiQ is in the same vein. There were lots of classic bits in this one. Yeah it puctured their egos, but it's a comedy and JM and DB were good at it.

As for the whole Buffy part of it... I realize that I simply no longer give a shit about Buffy. While I still clench my teeth whenever Spike says somethig that might even possibly make a duck happy, it's not about the characters, it's about fandom and the hatred of ducks. Where the characters are concerned I have no more pain for Spuffy because Spike is so, so, SO much better off without her! Angel is too. Buffy is nothing but a tiny bundle of misery. Feel sorry for the immortal, she's going to screw him over too. Spike and Angel are so much better off with each other than her. No pain from ship skewering. Buffy looks like a vapid bint... but then she IS a vapid bint. So -- eh. And there were just so many funny bits in here that I can't help but enjoy it.

As to "moving on," it's overdue. Buffy just isn't worth it. The guys deserve better... the story deserves better and I'm sad that they don't have time to get the hell over the bitch (not that the show would ever 100% allow that). However, my wish for another season goes undimmed basically because I need to see Spike move on. I think I've ended up resorting to my same method of catharsis that I used for other shows in the past... I have to write it the way I want it. It's giving me peace with other shows, and I think it's the way for me to come to terms with this one.

So, in my stupidity, I've launched the idea of a Virtual Season 6. I enjoyed doing virtual Seasons 8 & 9 of X-Files. And people seemed interested (and we could still use some more). And people seem willing to move the hell on from the Buffster so it sounds like a way of dealing with Spikey withdrawal.

Anyone reading want to join... we could still use help (and maybe some people interested in doing photo manipulation or mp3 soundtracks). Join here: AtS Virtual Season 6
