Supernatural
Sep. 13th, 2005 09:07 pmWell, that's a freaky opening sequence with Mom stuck to the ceiling bleeding down on the baby.
Okay it too has the heavy music background... but it annoys me less when it seems that someone might actually have that music playing IN the room where the characters are. Loud music makes sense in the background of a bar (but not graveside at a funeral. And I'm not sure why this developed as a pet peeve of mine, but there you go.)
Sam seems to have a Dirk Diggler's Boogie Nights haircut.
Jensen Ackles... still cute and far scruffier than he was back when he was on Days of Our Lives
Sam's not the greatest of actors. Dean/Jensen is rather appealing though.
Eeep... the rear view of The Woman in White (which makes me crack up because that makes me think of The Lady in White on Days of Our Lives back in the 90s who was laughingly referred to as The Lady in the Lace Table Cloth), anyway her introduction seemed a bit "The Ring"-like. . . well, until she went all ho-ish with the cleavage and the thigh fondling.
The Woman in White isn't the best of actresses.
Dude, you should know better than to walk up to an empty, abandonned house on a dark foggy night! No good ever comes of that!
(Again a bit The Ring like with the Woman in White appearing in the car)
Heh, so Jensen is a tad morally ambiguous... That's not a bad thing, is it?
Heh. Should be upset about the "Back in Black" stuff... but I sort of like it (and again, explained because he actually put the cassette in the cassette player so it makes sense within the scene and isn't just overlaid seemingly just to annoy me).
Dead guys girlfriend with a pentacle seems very Avril Lavigne.
Sam has a Buffy-ish obsession with "gotta live a normal life!"
Firefly commercial... eh. Still looks like a TV show to me.
Heh with Dean covered in mud (I think I could like Dean). "No chickflick moments."
Ooh! Look at the pretty with Legolas and Aragorn in a Two Towers commercials!
So all Women in White killed their children because of unfaithful husbands? All of them? Seems to be a bit uberspecific for ghosts. (And dead wife seems totally too hot for older unattractive hubby)
Ah so they set up the Dad leaving clues for them to be on a cross contry chase.
Woman in White transporting into the car was nicely executed. (And definitely a "The Ring" effect). Okay the unfaithful/succubus aspect of the WiW does seem rather sexist... and ookie).
Bad special effects though when her dead kiddies kill her, though. (Good think Nicole Kidman's kids weren't this pissed in "The Others" or it would have had a different ending).
All in all... not up to the X-Files. And it definitely has a WB whiff of young, square-jawed attractiveness. But, Supernatural has potential as a guilty pleasure in a cheesy-pleasy way. Jensen Ackles is cute and his character seems funny. No one would drop House for this, but if you don't watch House... it's not a wholly unpleasant show to watch if you can take the WB-ish-ness of it. It's pretty much in the Nightstalker vein... so wonder what the actual new Nightstalker will be like.
YIKES! Didn't really see the ending twist coming (though I did sort of expect the WiW to come out of the bathroom instead).

Date: 2005-09-14 02:19 am (UTC)It seemed creepy to me, but I'm also a big scaredy-cat. And was it just me, or did the woman in white bear a striking resemblance to Eliza Dushku? Towards the end it was so distracting to me that I couldn't even focus on what she was doing!

Date: 2005-09-14 02:47 am (UTC)My initial thought was she seemed to hot for her time period. She had that über-disheveled Victoria's Secret thing going on, which you didn't see a lot in the early 80's when she died. (And hubby did have a little over 20 years to age.)

Date: 2005-09-14 03:54 am (UTC)I can't remember the exact date but the woman in white died like 20 years ago, the husband didn't.
(Good think Nicole Kidman's kids weren't this pissed in "The Others" or it would have had a different ending).
HAHA! Now I like that.
I liked the ending in a weird sort of way and hope they some day tell the whys and wherefores of it.
I really liked both brothers and I could easily see them becoming my new slash ship with a little nudge. (doesn't stop the Numb3rs fans)
Didn't like Nightstalker as in boring and stupid. When I watched it I couldn't even bother to make myself write up the review.
