Can I Have a Vacation from my Holiday?
Nov. 29th, 2004 09:58 pmTired now.
Well, last Friday my mother and I re-painted my dining room (it's now Sherwin Williams "Practical Beige"... which looks far more Taupe than Beige, but what the hell). Then we hung crown molding. Ah, if that was all that I had lined up to do. We also tore out all the carpet in my dining room, living room, hallway, and I had torn out the carpet in my guest bedroom during the hurricane. Pulling up the tack strips is a bitch. When they invented nail guns people started putting nails ever few inches. You could pry up the tack strips, but they'd just crack leaving the nails in the concrete which you would either have to beat out with the crowbar or pry up with a hammer (usually leaving your hand very sore in the process). Then we spent the entire holiday installing new hardwood flooring in dining room, living room, and hallway (I have enough bought to also install the study but we simply didn't have the energy to do it). Oh, and we still managed to cook a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
Exhausted now. Hell, my JOB was so much more relaxing. All I had to do was sit all day and work on the computer. Sigh.
Sore all over with an assortment of bruises. But, hey, the hardwood looks fantastic.
Needless to say, I did none of the fanfic writing that I wanted to. It sits untouched over the holiday.
In other (i.e. television) news:
They really should just rename TNT "The Law and Order Channel." While laying carton after carton of hardwood, we'd leave the channel on TNT where episode after episode of L&O played back to back to back.
Also, because I knew my parents would enjoy it, while they were here we watched the History Channel's airing of "Band of Brothers" every night at 9pm Central. (It still has a few more nights to go). It really is an incredibly well produced and moving mini-series on WWII.
