Various and Sundry
Feb. 11th, 2005 11:07 amIt's Friday! Yay! And it's even sunny (though cold).
WORK
Cleaning up the drawings for Locust Fork Gym...which I've drawn four times now. It becomes smaller with each re-design. So there you go. Designing BACKWARDS. What a concept.
FANFIC
Didn't work on my Kinkathon fic last night. I had targeted to be on chapter 4 by this point and I'm only in mid chapter 3. I'm still quite frustrated with the story. It feels so frivolous. Something isn't fitting for me.
Okay, okay. Resolve face. I am going to stop playing "editor on the shoulder" and just write. Hopefully something reasonably okay will come from it. I did think of (okay, stole) a title for the Kinkathon fic. It's now going to be "The Hidden Memory." (Yeah, it's a Farscape episode title, but it fits the fic and is absolutely nothing like the Farscape ep for which it's named).
MESSAGE BOARDS
TWoP's message boards are down for the second day straight and I neeeeeeds my AMC and Project Runway snark. I neeeeeeds it, precious.
MESSAGE BOARD GOSSIP
With TWoP down I had to resort to some old haunts. Rumor was popping up strongly last night that Billy Warlock has been signed to reappear on Days. WTF? I just saw him on the cover of SID yesterday about his return to General Hospital. A question to a friend and it looks like BW's character is returning to GH just so they can kill him off. Okay, that infuriates me. AJ Quartermaine is a core family character. Despite the fact that Billy Warlock is OLDER than I am, I remember the character of AJ being born on the show. Now they frivolously decide to kill off the character? Reminds me of when they frivolously killed off Scott. Or worse when they brought Rick Webber back so that his daughter Laura (of Luke and Laura infamy) could discover his infidelity to her mother --which never happened on the show and ruining in retrospect the sweet romance of Rick & Leslie--and for Laura to kill him off (thus going insane and written off the show herself). It's for crap like this that the current incarnation of GH is now regularly referred to as TFGH (as in "the fucking...")
Not sure how true this rumor is, but apparently BW has posted on his website that he's exciting because GH treated him badly (which they did), but, hon, are you so deluded as to not realize that Days will treat you WORSE?! GH may suck... but it's Shakespeare in comparison to current Days.
And let's be honest, the only reason to bring his character back is to throw an obstacle into the relationship of Jack and Jennifer. . .which is funny considering that Jack has been "dead" most of the last two years (yes, you read that right. At last count they've killed him off 5 times in the last two years. In fact he is currently "presumed dead" at the moment. . .despite the fact that the audience knows he isn't. And combined the characters of Jack and Jen air maybe 5 minutes a month. Sure, Jennifer has been "mostly" a widow for the last two years (Jack was alive and with her for about 2 weeks last July... See, I SAID Days was horrifically bad), but she's, for the most part been quite the devoted widow touting the eternal love of J&J. So considering 1) J&J are already apart and 2) Other than Jack being dead/not dead/dead/not dead/dead/not dead they haven't had a storyline in YEARS and with airtime less than recurring get.
And to top it off the Jack/Jennifer/Frankie triangle was done 12 years ago...and Frankie quite definitively lost. BW's return as Frankie went over like a lead baloon and the audience had already chosen J&J as the "fated" couple of "twu wuv 4 eva." Yeah, Frankie had been Jen's "first love" and her teen/high school romance, but that was high school and Jack was her "adult" romance.
Now if a redux didn't work then, exactly why is it supposed to work with J&J 14 years later with a teenaged daughter (who is a total Daddy's girl) and an infant son?
Oh, wait, this is days. Nevermind. Logic doesn't apply. Besides they only need to kill Jack off. . .again.
LOST
I'm positively absurdly looking forward to next week's LOST with Sawyer flashbacks, a Robert Patrick guest appearance (Squee! It's DOGGETT!!), and written by Drew Goddard. Here's hoping next week's ep is better than this week's.
PROJECT RUNWAY
While it totally sucked that sweet, fey Austin was eliminated this week, I'm totally looking forward to next week's reunion show where in the promo it appears that all of the eliminated designers (and the non-eliminated Kara and Jay) appear to let Wendy "Cockroach" Pepper have it. Can't think of a talentless Cruella DeVille who deserves it more. {{pats Austin, Kara, and Jay}} Go Jay! Go Kara! Beat her ass in the finale!
OTHER
Sigh. The "Teen Crush" meme the other week got me all nostalgic. After remembering how much I had enjoyed the book "Merlin's Keep" as a tween, I hunted it down on Amazon. It's been out of print for 30 years, but I found a collectible copy for $6.00. It arrived yesterday. Squee! Here's hoping that the book holds up with time.
