Came through the storm. Never lost power here. Did have a hellish commute to work this morning as most of the streetlights were out so interesctions were four way stops, so the commute took forever.

My parents frantic calling finally resulted in someone answering in Monroeville. Their house is fine. No trees were down in their yard, no significant damage to the house. They left to go home. They called back this afternoon and they still had no power when they made it there, though she called a few minutes ago and they have just gotten power back.

No word on the beach house though the contractor my sister had redoing the bathroom in the house told her over the phone that there was little structural damage around Destin so the house is probably okay.

In other news, I put down a deposit on a new car! I finally got the color I wanted, the leather seats I wanted, and the price I wanted. I put down a deposit (they didn't have the car on a lot but had to call around the state to find it so they're having to have someone bring it to town. That's fine. I'm having to get a loan approved to finance it (shouldn't be a problem. I've already been approved by one bank but I found a better rate online (unfortunately business hours were over so I'll have to wait until morning for that approval). My car that I'm leasing was inspected today and given a clean result so I can return it to the VW dealer here in B'ham (which is good because I didn't lease it in B'ham and I really didn't want to have to drive it to Tuscaloosa and talk a friend or relative into driving there in order to give me a ride back.) In the process of doing this I re-learned a lesson I never should have forgotten -- buy cars over the PHONE! I made the mistake of going into a car dealership Saturday and that was a huge mistake (a story I'm too tired to write-up tonight). Maybe it's me, or maybe it's the process. But I'm swearing to myself that I'll never again make that mistake. I'm sticking to the Internet and the phone. You have more power then and that's what's important in negotiating for a car at least in my experience.

Anyway, by this weekend I should have a new, galaxy silver Equinox with light gray leather interior -- yay! (and maybe after I have some sleep tonight I'll explain the hell I went through to get it. No, I didn't sleep well last night not only was the wind howling loudly, but my mind kept going through the financing of this car and how I'd negotiate with the car dealers today. So freaking glad that's over. Now all I have to do is paaaaaaaayyyyyy.
