Mad Men - Afterthought
Aug. 9th, 2010 12:46 pmReading a bit on TWOP I was suddenly struck by the thought that Don and Lane Pryce actually have a lot in common...once you scrub off that Don is hot and an American and that Lane is not. Last year, I took from Lane's interactions with "Shane Donovan"(As Charles Shaughnessy will always be for me. Plus I've totally forgotten Shaughnessy's character name in Mad Men), anyway I took from Lane's interaction with his boss last year that Lane is something of a self-made man who hit the glass ceiling because he wasn't the same social status as the elite boys club that his boss represented. And, really, isn't this is the crux of many of Don's issues in life? His hatred of Dick Whitman, poor bastard farm kid?
Don and Lane actually have some similarity in that both of them wish to re-invent themselves through the firm.
