Well, LOST's Sawyer should be happy (wasn't he watching "Little House" on tv in limbo-heaven?

And I'm not so sure about a comedy writer being attached.  It's a little late for a Little House spoof.  I'd think they have to do the books straight.  Anyway...

From EW.com:

Any young and old(er) fans of little Laura Ingalls – braids and pinafore swinging, as curious as a caffeinated chipmunk – will be excited to know that Sony Pictures is in early development on a movie based on the Little House on the Prairie books and television franchise.

Shame screenwriter Abi Morgan is in talks to write the film, with Pineapple Express filmmaker David Gordon Green in talks to direct, and Scott Rudin and Trip Friendly to produce, a Sony spokesperson confirmed Monday to EW.

The TV series Little House on the Prairie, adapted from writer Laura Ingalls Wilder’s series of novels from the 1930s through early ’40s based on her family’s move through the prairies of the Midwest starting in the late 19th century, aired from 1974 to 1983, and gained a massive following. Melissa Gilbert played the show’s Laura Ingalls, Michael Landon played her father, Charles “Pa” Ingalls, Karen Grassle played her mother, Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, and Melissa Sue Anderson and twins Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush played her sisters.

Morgan, a British screenwriter and playwright, has some industry cred behind her, snagging British Academy of Film and Television Art Awards nominations last year for best original screenplay with the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady and outstanding British film for Shame, starring Michael Fassbender. Green is best known for directing comedies, ranging from TV’s Eastbound & Down to last year’s silly royal spoof Your Highness, with Natalie Portman, and 2008′s Pineapple Express, starring James Franco as a total stoner.

Rudin, of course, has produced many Hollywood blockbusters, from The Social Network to Oscar winner No Country For Old Men. With Rudin potentially on board, this Little House on the Prairie film has enough traction to pull a towns-worth of horse-drawn carriages.

shipperx: (Hunger Games - Mockingjay)
Now here's a crossover I never thought I'd see. . .

From EW.com:

From the (figurative) cutthroat world of American politics to the (literal) cutthroat world of Panem: EW has confirmed that Danny Strong — who won an Emmy last month for writing the HBO movie Game Change about the 2008 G.O.P. presidential campaign — is in talks to adapt Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay for the two-part finale of The Hunger Games saga. Part one of Mockingjay is already set for theaters on Nov. 21, 2014; part two on Nov. 20, 2015.

Though Strong began his career as an actor on shows like Buffy the Vampire SlayerGilmore Girls, and Mad Men, the Hunger Games gig cements him as one of the most sought-after working writers in Hollywood. His first writing credit was for the HBO movie Recount, about the 2000 presidential recount battle, and his upcoming projects include co-writer-director Lee Daniels’ life-in-the-White-House biopic The Butler, and the adaptation of Dan Brown’s bestseller The Lost Symbol.

Between Strong’s ability to refashion complicated narratives into a feature film timeframe and his clear affinity for stories with a robust political bent, he makes for a strong choice to handle Mockingjay‘s thorny tale of uprising and betrayal.

Variety first broke the news. Lionsgate had no comment.

Let me guess.

One hero will be somewhat Gary Cooper-esque tall, square guy who borders on bland (Capt. Tightpants/Riley)

One will essentially be Willow/Fred

One will be an slim little waif of a girl who will be capable of beating up big, broody guys...

Any other guesses?

From HuffPost:

Get ready to meet Joss Whedon's "S.H.I.E.L.D." team. Casting breakdowns for ABC's "S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot have fallen into the hands of TVLine and they're for all new characters with some trademark Whedonisms.

One of the characters, Skye, is described a woman in her late 20s and is "fun, smart caring and confident." She's also witty and charming. Sounds like a Whedon female lead!

Other casting breakdowns include "quite the physical specimen" Agent Grant Ward, a "quiet" and "damaged" Agent Althea Rice and Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons, both with "nerd tendencies."

Whedon is set to direct the pilot set in his "Avengers" movie universe and write the project with brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. He'll also write and direct the sequel to "The Avengers" set for 2015.

The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator has been stressing the need for new characters since news of the project broke.

"It's new characters. It needs to be its own thing," Whedon said. "It needs to be adjacent [to the MCU] but you don't want to do a show where you're constantly going, 'Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.'"

If Whedon wants to bring in some classic Marvel characters with ties to S.H.I.E.L.D., HuffPost TV has some suggestions. Click through the slideshow to see our picks.
