shipperx: (Farscape - Why So Difficult)
Ughhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On top of all else that sucked, LJ ate my post about how life sucks.  Ate it... three times.

And that was the PLEASANT part of the yesterday.

So, quickie upshot, after an ordinary sucky start to a sucky day involving poor sleep, female issues, achey back, and running late.  The latter part of the sucky day involved a flash flood that killed the computer server three times at work and yet also insisted on stranding those of us who were left in the office (the flood was at about 5:45 PM so there were only a few of us left) until the thing blew over... 45 minutes or so later.

So then came the drive home, which took twice as long because at least two portions of the road were flooded.

I finally made it home, and my order from Ballard Designs had arrived early (yay!) and, as I was looking forward to opening it, I headed into my bedroom to change clothes and...WADED INTO A PUDDLE!!!

Bedroom?  Flooded.

2cm deep puddle throughout half the room.   And it's hardwood.

Then I went into the guest bedroom and... IT'S FLOODED TOO!

The closet that's situated in between the two bedroooms is magically dry... which means that there were two points of infiltration, because there were no leaks in the roof.  This all came from exterior water rising above the floor slab.

Now, I've lived in this home since appx 1998, so it's never flooded like this before in 15 years (and I don't live in a floodplain).  Plus, even by the time I returned home, there was no standing water around my house.  Apparently it simply rained too damn fast for the area to drain as it normally does.

So... yeah.  Screwed.

And I don't know whether homeowner's insurance will cover this.

I then spent the evening moping up the hardwood floors in my bedroom (requiring that I move the bed, the side tables, and a chest of drawers across the room to do so.)   The floor was still looking... mostly okay this morning, so fingers crossed that maybe, just maybe, possibly, please(!) they might survive...?

Guest bedroom carpet is trashed, however.  I yanked up half the carpet and padding (it was really rather shittily installed.  It wasn't even difficult to pull up) so that the concrete could dry.  Can't do the whole room because A) the bed had to be assembled in the room, there's no way to take it out without taking the entire thing apart.  B) I have a freaking PIANO in that room (when my parents moved out of my childhood home, they asked whether I wanted the piano.  I probably should have said no, but didn't.  And the only place I had that I could stand the upright piano was in that bedroom, so the guest bedroom has an antique piano in it. . . and water-logged carpet.  Ughh!

Good News/Bad News?

Good News: I have wood flooring for the guest bedroom already bought and standing in packages in the garage.

Bad News:  The reason I have this is because the guest bedroom was the only room in the house that still didn't have hardwood, and I discovered that they had stopped making the brand and the color that was in the rest of my house.  I actually had to do an online search throughout the South a year or so ago to find enough wood to finish out my guest bedroom, had it shipped to me, and have stocked it in the garage so that I could eventually replace the carpet.   Now, see, while this is good news for the guest bedroom (relative to all the sucky news), it means that if the master bedroom's hardwoods are ruined by the flood I AM TOTALLY SCREWED! There is no more replacement flooring to be found.  Anywhere.  It was discontinued nearly two years ago, and I am the person who bought up everyone's leftover stock and there is barely enough to do the guest bedroom... and the master larger than my teeny-tiny guest bedroom.  So, if I have to replace the master bedroom's flooring....  Did I mention that I'm screwed?

Sigh and ugh!!!

So it was 10 o'clock and I hadn't yet eaten  (and having only had 600 calories to that point in the day, I was basically starved).

I finally just scrambled eggs (and my fitness pal put me waaaayyyyy over the line on cholesterol for the day... which was no doubt because between breakfast and dinner I had 4 eggs yesterday)  and then had that bitchy red MyFitnessPal text pop up with "YOU ARE NOT EATING ENOUGH CALORIES!"

Which, hey, stop bitching at me Iphone apI'm eating the only quickly cooked and eaten protein thing in the house, and I could just as easily start scarfing down that box of Girl Scout cookies that I have stashed away alongside Lindt chocolate truffles in the bread box!

And I just might!

So I tried to take out my frustrations with a rant on LJ.  And, damn it, LJ ATE MY POST THREE TIMES!

So, screw it.  I took the dog out for a pee and went to bed (apparently missing another major storm that hit at 3 am.  Luckily, no visible damage from this one.  I would have cried to have awakened to another huge puddle of water. )

...And okay, okay, so I had 1 1/2oz of Disaronno after I finished my eggs last night because I had a really, really sucky day, people!

I'd say that today couldn't possibly be worse, but why tempt fate?  Plus, I have to call my insurance agent.

Sigh.  Life sucked yesterday.  (Although the storage basket that I got from Ballards for the kitchen island looked really nice.  And currently-- due to both closet construction and bedroom flooding, causing clothing and furniture relocations-- the kitchen, the dining room, and the bathroom are the only non-trashed spaces in the whole damn house.)

I need coffee.
