Rewatching - Being Erica Season 2 Finale
May. 15th, 2010 07:09 pmI'm being lazy and with nothing on TV I'm re-watching the "Being Erica" season 2 finale episode (it's still on the DVR) and I can only repeat the reaction that I had at the time. I love the direction that they went. I'm rewatching the Erica/Ethan break-up scene again and it's really a lovely scene as she listens to what he wants in his future and she says she's freaking out, then she calms down and admits what's been clear to the audience for a while, she and Ethan just aren't right for each other. Ethan is a nice guy. He's solid. He's dependable. He's romantic. And... he just doesn't work with her. She wants things that he doesn't. They're two nice people who genuinely love each other... but they just don't fit. And the break-up is lovely as they cry with one another then part ways. It's kind to them both and yet it's also growth for Erica to admit that this really isn't working for her.
And they don't turn around and have her running to Kai either. Kai grew a little and moved on.
What Erica has is herself. And she's good with that. She's taking a leap, starting her own business, and walking through the door to new possibilities.
ERICA: I broke up with Ethan.
DR. TOM: I know.
ERICA: Kai has gone back where he belongs. I have no job and no boyfriend.
DR. TOM: And how does that feel?
ERICA: It feels scary... but strangely okay.
DR. TOM: And why is that?
ERICA: It's like... Talking to Ethan, it made me realize how much I've changed. Everything you've taught me, it's made me braver, somehow. Fear no longer holds me back. It actually motivates me. Does that make sense?
DR. TOM: We cannot teach people anything. We can only help them discover it in themselves ~Galileo. It's time, Erica. Choose a door...
And she does.
Lovely, lovely finale.
But, still YAY! THERE'S GOING TO BE A SEASON 3!
