I don't even like watch Veronica Mars and reading Kristen Bell's TV Guide on-line interview is giving me flashbacks to the bad old days of Marti Noxon being completely oblivious to what was actually on screen (and Buffy's flaws) and always claiming that the character of Spike was terrible and that people only liked the character because of JM (and his abs).

Sometimes the disconnect between what's being thought behind the scenes and what the fans think they're seeing on screen is astounding.

Anyway, still on a happy TV feeling due to the wonderfulness of last night's episode of Heroes. Whoever wrote that episode deserves a nice pat on the back.

Well, as much as I loathe the Noxious one, she's actually right about one thing, and it wasn't JM's abs (that was just a lovely perk *g*). But she's apparently really stupid and really short-sighted and just doesn't get what she was right about.

We did like Spike because of JM. Spike was what James Marsters made him. Without his characterization, then Spike would have been a different creature, and we probably would have forgotten him immediately after he was dusted in season two as was the original plan.

So, yes, Marti, fans were only interested in Spike because of JM, but not because JM, and therefore Spike, was so pretty. It was because JM gave Spike an unbelievable charm, charisma, and soul long before he went to Africa. JM made him a character we were interested in and grew to love. Yes, pretty, pretty man. But so, so much more. And you, Marti, are a total moron.

Marti's got a point. I don't think I would like Spike as much as I do if he wasn't so freakin' pretty. But I'm picky and require both looks and acting ability. I kind of suspect most people are like that. *g*
