Time to keep an eye on fandom_wank.  Is it terrible of me that I saw Harry Potter Star Nixes Next Two Films, mentally rubbed my hands together, and thought "Oooh!  Kerfuffle!"

My first thought was: if you don't want to be known as just the girl from HP, then why don't you do something else in the two year gap between films? Has she done anything else? Maybe she's working in the UK and we're not seeing it; but really have you seen her anywhere else?

Daniel Radcliffe made a shrewd move with his recent role in Equus, earned great reviews and showed his range. That's how you avoid typecasting.

I hope she sticks to her guns on this one. The girl's gotten progressively worse in every film. And paying her 3.8 million is insane. She's a 16-year old kid who hasn't done jack besides HP. If we can replace James Bonds, we can definitely replace Hermiones.

I don't blame her, really. She's sixteen, and she's already been stalked by some guy who forced his way into her school. That would scare the bejesus out of me, and I'm waay more mature than she is. Unlike Radcliffe, who was a child actor before HP, she comes from a civilian family, and I'll bet they're backing her decision to start living a somehat normal life (although how normal is questionable -- to many people she will always be the "only" Hermione).

Hey, HP didn't suffer when they introduced a new Dumbledore -- I'll bet it will withstand a new Hermione.

At any rate, she's wanted out for quite some time as far as I know, being that she wants to focus on school. So, good for her.

Your thoughts were more expansive than mine. I've never really been an HP fan. I've never read the books and though I enjoyed...er... the next to last movie (whatever its name was), I found Goblet of Fire to be overlong and a tad pointless. Basically, my thoughts never went further than a vague hope for amusing wank. >:)

I figure the series will survive. It will, however, throw a kink in for the whackos fans who were shipping the actress and Radcliffe and wrote RP fic (which always skeezed me out. Jeez, people these are real, live kids!)

Hm. I see nobody followed the links. One of the linked articles says this has been misreported, and Emma is planning to do the rest of the movies, she just hasn't signed yet.

I'm adopting a wait and see pose. Not that I'd be interested in kerfuffling about it, anyway.

Whatever. They recast Dumbledore; they can re-cast Hermione.

I'm a lot more lackadaisical about the casting of characters who originated in books - the actors seldom match my mental image of the character perfectly anyway.
