I almost did say "relationships" as nothing I watch right now has anything to do with the shippy. I actually am quite off the shippy. But, you know, relationships apply to love more than they do to sex, so I am not totally bitter.

I went with message. I usually end up feeling wanked OR I totally disagree with the message trying to be presented.
I can't think of a single instance of any "message show" meaning anything to me. (I defy the idea that BtVS was a message show, no matter what Joss says)

You got any ideas about shows like that? Maybe I'm dim and missed the message. :P
