Steam me up, Scotty! William Shatner is reportedly flipping his wig over Leonard Nimoy apparently being offered a cameo in J.J. Abrams' planned Star Trek feature film (a prequel to the TV series, by all accounts). The erstwhile Captain Kirk "is very upset," a source tells the New York Post. "[He] has been lobbying for a role [for himself]." Asked about the supposed dis, the Shat's rep tells the tab, "I don't know that to be the case, so I can't comment." OK, fine, break out the mind meld....

This is a prequel, right?  Who is Nimoy playing?  He can't be Spok's father because we've seen a great deal of Spok's father.  Is he going to play Spok's grandfather?  Maybe Shatner can play the guy who gets NuSpok and NuKirk cheap hotel rooms on Vulcan.

Man, I really have no interest in waching that movie. I prefer to keep Kirk & Spock aged no older than The Voyage Home, the last decent Star Trek TOS movie.

Is there any reason to believe this? Shatner has been very vocal about his support for this movie. Why would Abrams tick off part of the fan base by dissing Shatner?

Plus Shatner and Nimoy are close, best friends. Nimoy lately has only come out of retirement when it's a chance to work with Shatner (ala the Priceline commercials), so basically I call shenanigans on this story.

Um . . . another prequel? After the travesty that was Enterprise (even if Xander and Andrew were enjoying picturing Scott Bakula naked!) and the "new" Star Wars trilogy, I'm sort of very afraid of prequels.

They could just change the look of Ambassador Sarek (papa Spock). They're changing the look of Spock, after all.

Plus, Sarek was about 100 years old when TOS ran. maybe he looked different when he was young(er).

I think they should put both Shatner aand Nimoy in the movie, but they should play Klingons. They could be like the Statler and Waldorf of Klingons!
