From TVGuide.com:
Eliza Dushku may be bunking with some old friends when she moves into Joss Whedon's Dollhouse next season. According to multiple sources, several Buffyverse grads are being considered for the eight supporting roles now being cast.

Whedon confirmed this unbelievably fraktacular turn of events moments before taking the stage at Paley Fest's Buffy tribute last Thursday. "I've read a couple of people [from the Buffyverse]," he told me, "but I'm not going to say who."

Although this would seem to contradict comments the Buffy master made to me last fall, in which he said that his "first instinct is to probably [cast] new people because I'm already reuniting with Eliza and I don't want it to seem like a house party," Whedon insists his position hasn't changed.

"It's not a hard and fast rule," clarifies the auteur, who just completed penning Dollhouse's one-hour premiere. "I just want to make sure I get the right people. And I don't want to give the impression that it's just me and my friends having a party. Some [Buffyverse alums] might work out fine. But I'm not going to just seek out people that I already know are great. That would be lazy."

You know what I say? There's nothin' wrong with being lazy if it means Whedon reuniting with the likes of James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter and Julie Landau. Of course, that's not to say they're the Buffyverse vets in the running for Dollhouse. That's not to say they aren't either. See how I protected myself there?

Um...uh... yeah.

I could see Juliet Landau working with him again, and maybe even Marsters. But Charisma? There would have had to be a lot of groveling involved, and I don't think that Joss's knees bend the right way.

I think Landau has actually been rumored, but I would think the liklihood of Nathan Fillion or Marc Blucas would be infinitely greater than JM. In fact, I don't think there's anyway in hell we'd see JM... or CC (and I wouldn't blame CC one tiny bit).

Heck, according to Ausiello, there's a pretty good chance the whole thing will never see the light of day.

I think anyone he hired would be the minor players...the Jonathon Woodwards, the Adam Busch's etc. JM, MT, even Tom Lenk, would just be too distracting. And I don't see Joss ever hiring CC again after what went down in AtS S3-4.

I'd give Nathan Fillion or Marc Blucas far greater odds than JM ever appearing on this thing. Tom Link and Woodard would also be far more likely. Okay, infinitely so.

I can't in any way see NF being hired, both because he's got enough on deck and because again, too distracting. And I don't think I've ever heard Joss' opinion on MB at all. If Petrie was in charge, that'd be a different story.

Hee. Petrie had such a man-crush on Blucas. You can almost hear him drooling on the episode commentaries.

I'm also predicting that any Buffyverse alums will be relatively minor players. He really seems to like JW, and hell, he's had him on every other show he's ever done. You know, I personally would love to see Julie Benz again. I think she and ED would be great together, and they never had any scenes together in the Buffyverse.

I stopped watching mid-S1 so I don't know, but isn't Julie Benz still on Dexter?

Oops. Probably. Heh, I'm not watching that at the moment.

I doubt we'll see Benz. She's got a good (and sure) thing over on Showtime right now.

I mainly say so because Joss apparently hated firing Blucas and because, looking at Fillion, Blucas and even, to some degree, DB, that's Joss's physical 'type', much as he tends to have a preference for waifish female leads (not that ED fits that so it's not an iron-clad rule or anything.)

I dunon. I mean, it seems like he would have plenty on his plate. But he did show up on "One Life to Live" lately (and I actually respect him for that. Seriously!)

But it's more that I think that if Joss had his druthers. I mean, Joss seems to have a serious mancrush on the guy. Much like Petrie with "Riley" (I'll never for the life of me will see James Bond in Riley. I just... It's just not there. Clark Kent? Sure. James Bond? Er... still not seeing it.)

What did go down in season 3-4? I know that Charisma's pregnancy disrupted the plan for season 4, but I've never been sure why she was written out of a few episodes in season 3?

Season 3 was for her honeymoon.

I don't know that there's ever been any confirmation as to what exactly happened in Season 3 other than the extremely vague and could mean anything "erratic behavior".

Oh my lord god, I predicted this over on AICN. He's worse than David Milch. I'll bet Landau shows up on this, as well as most of the Firefly cast (except for Tudyk, who I think has more sense). Heh. Whedon is nothing if not totally predictable.

Admittedly the one that I'm expecting is Nathan Fillion. Summer Lau could make an appearance if the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' isn't picked up. But, JM? Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. (Landau's name has been rumored, though.)

I've no doubt Jonathan Woodward will show up for at least one episode (should the show last that long), but, god, I hope he doesn't bring Lenk in as a regular cast member. I doubt if we'll ever see JM on the show, and besides, I'm still burning candles that he gets his own show. What I'd really like is for CBS to do a Det. Mars series because I loved him in that role.

It would be nice to see him on something where it was more than a cameo and thus might provide actual character development (not that Torchwood isn't fun.)

What I find amusing is that we're all obviously bringing our own (sometimes quite different) impressions of the cast/Whedon relationships into our guesses.

And I wonder how accurate any of our impressions are. So CC would never work on a Whedon show again unless he groveled? See, MY impression was always that CC was so disruptive to work with that Whedon was looking to get rid of her by season 3 of BtVS. Not saying CC would ever work with Whedon, but based on the rumors I keep hearing, if she wanted to SHE'D have to be the one groveling to work with HIM.

And everyone seems sure that Whedon won't work with Marsters again. That surprises me, not because I think he'd be considered for this show, but because while I've heard JM make occasional passive/aggressive comments about JW, I've never heard anything negative from JW about JM.

If I had to take bets on Buffyverse alumns, I'd bet on supporting players or some people from AtS: Amy (unless she has a full-time gig)and Alexis.

I don't think JW dislikes JM per se. I do think, however, that he thinks that the character of "Spike" kind of outgrew what JW believed should be Spike's place in the Whedonverse and JW doesn't want to ever risk that again. JM has pretty much always maintained that JW wouldn't ask him to do another series again. I didn't find that to be passive aggressive, I found that being honest. I never got the impression that JW gave a hoot about JM one way or the other.

I think it is probably a given that if JM were to do it, he would inevitably have the same effect as he did on Buffy. I don't think he can help it. You only have to look at the universal squeeage about Capt John on Torchwood...

Of course, there may come a time when JW needs the ratings to be boosted and then, well I guess all help will be welcomed!

First the series has to be picked up, which is still greatly in question at this point. As far as I know it's still under development for a pilot.

I would dearly love to see Landau on a regular basis.

I also seem to be in the minority that would love to see Lenk again. I've seen him outside the Buffyverse (ie Transformers) and he *can* play not annoying.

Woodside leaves me cold. As I said higher up I doubt Benz would leave Dexter for a possibility of success in a Joss show. Blucas rubs me the wrong way (waaaaaaayyyy too wholesome). I'd love to see Fillion or Browder in one of the roles. Torres leaves me cold as well. Woodward would be cool if I could forgive him for killing Fred. I could also easily see Mercedes as another of the dolls.

I wish Tudyk *would* do it. I lurves me some Tudyk and have since the Julia Roberts vehicle, 28 Days.

I don't have anything against Lenk, myself. It's not as though he's actually Andrew.
