Pet Peeve

Dear World, Columnists, Reporters, Candidates, Paid Political Hacks, Bloggers, Sockpuppets and/or Trolls,

Please stop using "Alabama" as a pejorative.   It is a state where actual people live,  and these people are, by and large, not living in the year 1968 (nor, FYI, do we live in the movie Deliverance).  Additionally,  we do not appreciate constantly being used as an insult for another state.   It's annoying.  It's insulting (to both states).  And it is mind-numbingly overused.

From one Southerner to another, word.

I lived in the deep backwoods in the Carolinas, and it wasn't nearly as bad as the pit of despair and backwards-thinking in the state in the Northeast that I live in now. The South has become the PC scapegoat of America that people like to blame for everything.

As far as I can tell it's always considered appropriate to make fun of the South. For some reason, Southerners aren't supposed to be bothered by being called ignorant, toothless, inbred racist fools. It's annoying.
