Rewatched a couple of things this evening.

AtS - "Damaged." I did have to giggle at Angel asking the psychiatrist (re: Spike) whether 'pathological idiot' was a diagnosable condition. Hee! That giggle aside, I remain somewhat heartbroken that Andrew was the only person ever allowed to be happy that Spike wasn't dead.

It was nice to discover that I'm more capable of taking what was done to Spike in this episode than I was at the time it aired. Yes, the sawing off his hands was horrific and will always be horrific, but coming off a previous year (couple of them actually) of "Kick the Spike" I was beyond resentful of it when the spoilers first hit the net.

Ultimately, though, it's the final scene that became the heart of this episode. It encapsulates so much:

SPIKE: The lass thought I killed her family. And I'm supposed to what, complain 'cause hers wasn't one of the hundreds of families I did kill? I'm not sayin' you're right 'cause, uh... I'm physically incapable of saying that. But, for a demon I never did think that much about the nature of evil. No. Just threw myself in. Thought it was a party. I liked the rush. I liked the crunch. Never did look back at the victims.
ANGEL: I couldn't take my eyes off them. I was only in it for the evil. It was everything to me. It was art. The destruction of a human being. I would've considered Dana a masterpiece.

Ah, the soul boys. So alike yet so very different.

Farscape - "Nerve"
Crichton: "Danger, Will Robinson. Beware the chair."

I watched "Farscape" out of order the first time I saw it, catching onto the series in Season 3 or so. The first time I saw "Nerve" was in reruns, but I remember squealing with glee over it because upon watching it, suddenly so much of what I had been watching in later seasons made sense. Nerve was the episode that started so, so many things. This and "A Human Reaction" are really the starting points of this show's mythology.

First, some shallow stuff. John? Still freaking HAWT in Peacekeeper gear. Aeryn? Still a wonderful heroine. She's tied with Scully as my all-time favorite heroine and it will probably be a hell of a long time before anyone comes close to either of them in my book. Next, Chi is is distractingly lovely when she's convincing John to let her tag along. It's weird how alien makeup can do that because Gigi Edgely is "cute" but not strikingly beautiful. Chi, on the other hand, can be beautiful. Weird, huh? (Oh, and Chi would never make it as a Whedonverse character. Any female character that blatantly sexual would be punished or demonized for it. On Farscape, while Chi's sexuality got her into trouble, it never seemed like punishment. Yes, she did something stupid that D'Argo deserved to be pissed off about for good long time, but that came off as a character choice that I believed (and no, it's not in Nerve, but I've seen the entire series so many times that I tend to skip around in my thinking) Chi was just sexual. It was part of her and not something that had to be punished out of her or made into a repetitive joke.) And in the background as Evil!Sidekick before Braka (Scorpy+Braka= OTP), is Peacekeeper!Barbie (thanks for that description, Crichton). Peacekeeper!Barbie always amused me. I don't know why. But she does look like an evil Barbie.

Nitpicks: John's Peacekeeper accent always makes me giggle my butt off. Oh, Ben Browder, you are good at many things, but a fake quasi-Ausie/quasi-English accent is not one of them. And I noticed that Chi clearly has an Ausie accent in one scene but that it disappears in another.

Now, onto the awesome - Scorpious! Oh, Scorpious you rock villainy like a rocking thing. His recognizing John as an imposter at very first glance-- Woohoo! I love a villain that's smart. Aurora chair? Whee! Is it evil that I sort of love Scorpy for driving John looney-toons? I don't think I ever would have loved John half so much if he had he remained just the good-guy, heart-on-his-sleeve scientist. I love that he loses his mind and is battling for his sanity for the rest of the series. It's part of what makes John compelling.

And Crais! Crais is a great gray character. Consumed with revenge but not totally evil (though he is here, but I know that Aeryn will take care of him soon).

Whee! I love rewatching Farscape. I love so many of these characters. It's like visiting old, dear friends. True, I love them for entirely different reasons (some, admittedly twisted) but I love them.

I really need to rewatch the series from beginning to end (though I find chunks of Season 1 to be annoying). The series as a whole, however, has never ceased to be a heck of a lot of fun (if occastionally angstastic) to watch.

Harmony was happy to have him back. Remember? I loved Harmony so much. As an aside, I've met Mercedes McNab at so many cons, and she's so adorable, so young, so innocent, so shy, so nervous. I love her. :squee: But it's like an old mother hen clucking over a chick. Hee.

Andrew just worshipped Spike. At a con in 2003, I told Tom Lenk(Lenck) about my idea for a future series. It was going to be Spike and Andrew as a crimefighting/supernatural investigating duo. Spike would drive the motorcycle and Andrew would ride in the side car. He would be all pretentious and pretend to smoke a pipe and harrass and annoy all the suspects and victims alike. Then, he'd gather his information, make his report to Spike, and Spike would come in and kick butt. It would be comedy gold. They'd have a constant bitch fest because Andrew would annoy Spike to death with his hero worship, and Spike would frustrate and irritate Andrew by not understanding all of his Scifi geek references.

I told Tom all about it at a con and he laughed himself purple. Then he said, "Uhmmm, are you a writer, because seriously, you should pitch that. From your mouth to Joss's ears." I said, "Why don't you?" and he just turned pink and started giggling. (He's very very shy around fans.)

Anyway, I loved him and I luuuuuuuuuuuved the episodes with Spike and Andrew. Heck, Spike (James) went well with everyone.I'd have watched a Spike/Joyce series. I think it's tragic that we didn't get a season 6 or 7 or Angel because David and James were finding their perfect rhythm as Spike and Angel and they would have been so INCREDIBLE together!!!

Crais. I loved that evil guy so much. I kind of found him less *sexy* when he came to live and travel with Creighton and the other misfits.

Oh, and I had a terrific disagreement with a friend while the show was ongoing because she *insisted* that Ben Browder was Australian, and that the way Creighton sounded was the way *real* Australians sounded. Ha hah!!!

Oh, you're making me sad for that show. I loved that show so much. B5, Buffy, Farscape, DS9, Angel, and La Femme Nikita--at one time I thought I'd die when those shows were cancelled/ended. Lo, I survived.

Now I'm going to die when BSG ends and Bones is cancelled. LOL!!!!

I noticed on rewatching "Damaged" last night that Mercedes McNab is tiny. For some reason I don't think I ever really digested that fact before. And Spike/Andrew would have made a great comedy team.

I love Mercedes. At the 2003 Vulkon, the idiots decided to have a cocktail party with the fans at $100 per fan. This actor who played several demons on Buffy showed up (sorry I can't remember his name) and Mercedes. The majority of the crazed James fangurlz didn't even acknowledge her. She came quaking in to a very hostile crowd. I approached her, and so did some others. She was soooo adorable. Of course, when James came in, chaos broke out, and I didn't even try to get near him. Mercedes wanted to talk to him, so some fans suggested that she go on over, and we actually helped her climb over the elbowing, scratching, and kicking fans. (I'm not using hyperbole) She finally got to where James had been squashed down in a chair, and they hugged. Lots of fans were *very pissed* and angry that Mercedes took some of their time with James away from them. Hah!

At the Cleveland con, Mercedes and her *adopted mom* (me) reconnected at the cocktail party, and the next day at her Q&A, I was leaving the auditorium to go to the ladies, when she walked up with her assistant. Mercedes grabbed me and said, "You can't leave now. I'm doing my Q&A. I'm going to die up there." I hugged her and told her she was so wonderful and she would be okay, but she really wasn't. George Hertberg and Mark Lutz came up and saw what a state she was in and decided that one of them should go with her. They decided it would make more sense for Mark (Marc) to be with her since his character was on Angel. I was standing there the whole time with Mercedes holding both my hands. They convinced her it would be okay, and I *promised her* I was going right back in with them to watch. I luuuuuuv her because she's so real. I saw her again at another event, and she called me Mama! and thanked me for helping her with her meltdown. I just think she's completely adorable, but that's probably "the Mama" in me coming out. LOL.

Yeah, Damage is a great episode, though have to admit, every single Spike the Idiot comment from that season still grates with me.

It's the fact that it seemed to become something of an accepted "fact" rather than simply a petty insult. It would have helped if they hadn't had everyone mock Spike's intelligence.

Yes, when the show ended, I remember an interview with Jeff Bell in which he said of Spike that he wasn't 'the brightest pencil in the box.'

I sometimes think that if AtS had had a season 6, Spike would have taken to walking around with his mouth hanging open or sucking a straw or something.

Yeah, nothing like watching Angel being completely petty. And Andrew was so sweet around Spike, even in TGIQ he was nice to him - as opposed to Angel.

See, it's Dork!Angel version that I love. When he was just dark, broody, mysterious stranger on Buffy, I liked him okay, but I didn't feel particularly strongly. AtS!Angel, the one who loved Barry Manilow albums and Charleston Heston movies was far more "human" (so to speak) and thus far more lovable.

It should be cosmic law that John Crichton must always wear black leather pants. Preferably while strolling around my apartment.

Hee! John Crichton in black leather was NEVER a bad thing (and never will be.) :)

Is Peacekeeper!Barbie Grayza or some one else I can't remember?

Peacekeeper!Barbie was just someone who appeared in the background of Season 1. I don't know if she even ever had a line. She just had a bright red wig with a precision cut, and an outfit of black spandex. Crichton was deadon calling her "Peacekeeper!Barbie" she looked practically plastic.
