Actually it was a rather backhanded thing where the bidding war between WB and UPN changed the ante between the networks and that by acquiring BtVS, UPN stepped into the WB's demographic and probably survived a few season's longer than it should have. Basically saying that UPN stealing BtVS stepped on the WB's toes where young female audience's are concerned. It was more "BtVS saved the UPN when it should have died a natural death and by saving the netlet, it split the audience, keeping UPN on life support long enough for UPN to kill the WB."
