Has anyone seen the CW's new Vampire Diaries commercials? Boy, does that look like the biggest world of suck since the "Land of the Lost" trailer. Can this show possibly be as bad as its commercial?
Hmmm. I have not seen any commercials for this show, but I did watch a 3 minute trailer on youtube that looked pretty good to me. Quite dark and nowhere near "Land of the Lost" bad. I will have to look out for the commercials to see what you mean.
I don't know anything about the series, really, except that thecommercials are bad. Very bad. It probably will appeal to the sparkle vampire Twilight crowd, though.
I just added you and have your fanfic's added to my to-do list! Still learning all this Live Journal knickknacks, but anyway...
My comment to this...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?!?!?!
I read these books back when they first came out...shoot some time around 1992, and this led me to my love of all things, vampires. I understand series that start up do change things, but I am disappointed. Go to cwtv.com and check out the 5 minute trailer. The casting is uh, hmm, not so great. Yeah, yeah, who am I to say? Well...I can say in complete confidence that there are those out in the audience who are saying who would have done a better job at certain roles.
They got Stefan right. Paul Wesley will do an amazing job in this role. Ian I'm not so sure about for Damon. I thought Steven Strait would have been a better fit, but what do I know, right?
Nina Dobrev...will not ever make a good Elena. I liked Elena in the books, but I was more a Bonnie and Meredith lover. The whole focus was Elena's eyes and the resemblance to Katherine. Nina has two strikes for looks and her acting...is well imo, mediocre. She won't hack it! Personally, I see her better as a Meredith than an Elena.
Next...WHY the heck did they change it and give her a brother rather than a younger sister???????
I loved these books and yes I do realize they change things to fit what they want and will take it in a completely different direction. Well, they did that for Buffy...except it worked. This is a book. I am told True Blood - they changed a lot of things. Well, I didn't know it was a book until I happened upon it.
Things like changing how it ends or changing it to turn it into a series...that I get. However, changing the whole idea to it...NO WAY! They didn't do that to HP movies or even Nicholas Sparks' books to movies. They stayed towards the same concept and in the general realm of characterization and appearances. If they were different - say different eye color, they got around it!
They are completely changing this to reflect on Williamson hopefully bringing another hit to a network that is frankly getting rid of shows it shouldn't have been ridding of in the first place. Privileged I love that show...Reaper was alright but still watchable.
When they change things so drastically from a book that is what is going to be flamed. A lot are starting to back off about the appearances, but what about the acting? What about how the character is portrayed in the books? We know it's about two vampires...one older brother and one younger brother wishing he wasn't a vampire both in love with a girl who looks remarkably like their maker Katherine.
Good god...not another triangle to add to television lol... Although, this triangle is ok but the whole deal I have about it...Is the casting. There should have been more of an effort put into this.
I wonder what L. Jane Smith is saying about this...From what I heard she isn't pleased about some of it. Hmmm...Just my thoughts on it...and sooooo sorry for writing too much of a comment...This just disappointed me.
I don't know much about the show. I have to admit that my curiosity will probably lead me to watch at least the first episode, but the commercials advertising it haven't left me particularly hopeful.
And, yeah, there are differences between "True Blood" the series and "True Blood" the books. But, hey, since it's allowed Lafayette to live, I can go with the changes (albeit my knowledge of the book series is based on wikipedia so I have no emotional connection to the books). If I remember correctly sci-fi's "The Dresden Files" had some pretty significant changes from the book series, but as the television show was short lived, it never really competed with thebooks for me.
