M'kay, I've got a question  why in the hell did Elena beg for Damon's life?   It's rather like that old BtVS fandom question of whether Buffy would've staked Spike had Spike been chip-free and killing.  I was always but always on the side of hell yeah.  She'd have to.  With that in mind, jeebus, I've yet to see Damon show any redeemable traits and she knows he's been out murdering (and was murdering five minutes after she saved him).  I seriously do NOT know why she was begging for his life.   (Nor do I know how this show plans to redeem Damon enough to keep him around on the show.  They can only carry this along so long until it becomes utterly ridiculous that someone doesn't stake him.  And it's already damaging Elena's supposed 'goodness' that she just begged for his life when he's shown no reason whatsoever why he should be saved (meanwhile she's all suspicious of Stefan.  Girl has some very strange priorities.  (Is Elena supposed to have traits like her evil doppleganger?  That's the only thing that could possibly explain it to me because, honestly, Damon is a killer who kills.   There's not much ambiguity in that)

I have no idea why Elena would beg. Maybe she doesn't want to see anyone killed, no matter how awful they are? I don't know.

Though I have thought about the "how can the show keep him" question before. On Buffy, Buffy is the hero. She fights the evil things. It's her job and the premise of the show. So yeah, if you have a bad guy, they have to end up dead or (somewhat) reformed, or it starts to get weird. But I was thinking about this question in the context of TVD (or other shows). Stefan is a good vampire, sure, he's chosen not to feed off people. But does that automatically mean he has an obligation to kill all other vampires who are acting like vampires are "supposed to"? Really, he doesn't seem to care about other vampires unless they threaten Elena. He only killed Vicki after she went after Elena, despite the fact that she was a loose cannon and didn't seem interested in adopting his "lifestyle" or listening to his advice.

(Though Damon does seem to be getting plenty of enemies...)

They're going to have to do something with Damon to keep him (and they should keep him.) But they either have to make him so powerful that it makes some sort of sense that no one can kill him -- and that's a dangerous route for the writing to take -- or they are going to have to do something that cuts short his murdering spree. He's got too many bodies piling up too quickly.

The show has already given both of them magic rings, so Damon and Stefan already have an advantage over other vampires, though the rings don't seem to stop them from being hurt by wood bullets, and I doubt it would have helped Damon if the guy had set fire to him. I would at least like to see him stop killing random people, though. The drinking and mindwiping at least leaves people alive. Though I can't really blame him (I guess) for killing the woman who betrayed him and tried to have him killed (even though he started it by killing Lexi). He's a vampire, what do you think is going to happen if you set him up to die and he doesn't end up dying? But yeah, if they just stopped the random killing, it would be a step.

Seriously, Damon's kill count is pretty impressive for a non-horror movie vamp. Unchipped Spike wasn't shown offing this many folks this quickly. Angelus wasn't shown on screen killing this many. Heck, even true blood vamps don't have equal carnage and they're rated 'R'! LOL!

Heh, I think Spike only killed like two people on screen (teacher in School Hard and magic shop girl in Lovers Walk), until his spree in S7. Hmm, maybe the True Blood vamps have an "image" to maintain since they're "out" so we don't see them killing as much. I bet Eric kills people. But yeah, Damon sure gets around.

If memory serves, Eric dismembers people! ::shudder:: That scene was just... ::shudder::

Yeah, on True Blood, they kill you really, really messily. They just don't have a high body count.

If the series are following the books, Damon might be possessived and that could be making him kill more than normal. But Damon was evil in the books that I remember and he wanted Elena to be his. Has he showed intrest in Elena yet ?
