Wonder Woman Has Had a Makeover

Wonder Woman has had a fashion makeover

You know, after choosing this icon, it struck me that if Claudia Black were younger, she would make a kick-ass Wonder Woman. Alas, the industry being what it is, she's probably a decade over their age limit.

ETA:  I'm also somewhat amused that B5's writer came up with a Wonder Woman storyline when Joss Whedon couldn't.

Agreed. And if they cast Ben Browder as her human love interest - Steve, I'd be in heaven. Although he sort of played a role like that already in Star-Gate.

Much more practical for crime-fighting, and less prone to wardrobe malfunctions. I approve! Though I doubt the guys will....

And you're totally right about CB.

I was thinking that they should have gone with blue jeans, could have even emboidered a star on one of the back pockets to keep the original motif. It would have worked better color-wise than the black leggings, keeping the original color scheme.

That said, yes, this is infinitely more suitable for crime fighting and not nearly as exploitative.

I really like that design. Which probably means she'll be back in star-spangled panties and a bustier within a year.

Well, the jacket looks amazingly motion restricting. I don't see how she could swing her arms.

But what I really hate is the total destruction of her background as a woman who know she's equal because she lived it as a child. Hate that, just plain hate it.

WW's semi-sidekick on the Teen Titans wears the blue jeans costume of which you speak.

There are a lot of different views about Wonder Woman's origins, powers, supporting cast, etc. Virtually the only thing that there's a consensus about is the costume. So I'm not sure I see the point of changing it. Although I don't really mind it, either.

There's a difference between coming up with a WW storyline, and coming up with a WW storyline a studio will spend $150 million on. I doubt Straczinski would have much better luck at that than Joss did.

I think the primary problem with WW movie is that most super hero movies are origin stories and it's hard to do a contemporary origin story for WW. I was actually somewhat intrigued by Straczinski's approach of having her thrown into an alternative timeline with only partial memory of her original timeline and then having to pursue a mystery to re-discover herself, her past, and why someone deliberately changed it. I actually could see that developed into an interesting movie about her origin. It would be a different approach to showing a hero's origin story. It's not all that far removed from what they did with Trek where they had a new timeline rediscover the old one.

Well, you might feel differently if you'd ever tried to fight crime in a bathing suit...

From an in-story perspective, I don't disagree. I just have doubts about how successful this will be as an approach to marketing the character. Wonder Woman doesn't sell comic books. She sells merchandise, and the merchandising is based mostly on the costume.

True. He'd definitely work too. And she'd make a great Amazon.

But, unlike the spangled bathing suit, it would be nice when it's chilly.

I gather she's still raised by Amazons, it's just that the timline has changed. I kind of liked the concept of it as a rediscovery of her background.

Tis true. Denim would be very American. But I guess the black is meant to be all sexy and dark.

He couldn't come up with a storyline for much smaller blonde child.

On the other hand, maybe Pseudo-8 *IS* his Wonder Woman storyline. "Uhm, what if I have an incredibly powerful mystery man from her past have global se -"

"NEXT!"
