I've been lazy and not downloading.  Because of that I've been watching this season's Being Human at the BBC America pace.  That said, I'm spoiled out the whazoo.  So  I've been a bit surprised at the surprise over Mitchell's death.  To be honest, even before it became a known fact, it's been coming off as inevitable within the story.  I guess I used to assume they could always find some sort of resurrection plot if they needed it, so I wasn't certain that Aidan Turner would be gone.  But from the season premiere I assumed that Mitchell really would have to die.

And as crap-ass as his Angel comics were, Bill Willingham did make a good point with the quote:

 ...one time something takes control of you and you accidentally turn evil but it’s not your fault? That can be understood. Maybe the second time something takes possession of you and you turn evil, maybe that can be forgiven as well. But by about the third or fourth time that something takes over this person and he becomes evil, you have to ask yourself, like, well, maybe there’s just something wrong with this fellow from the beginning. Maybe he is evil. Maybe that’s what evil is...

Same here. The shock and outrage I've seen over the finale have taken me completely by surprise.

Whoa, no one's been paying attention, apparently. As paratti noted over and over this season, the final outcome had the inevitability of Greek tragedy.

I think fans have also been spoiled by the continued cop-outs, fake-outs and gotchas! perpetrated by the writers of lesser genre shows (Joss Whedon, Alan Ball, whoever writes Supernatural, etc.). As such they expect certain characters to remain untouchable no matter how horrible their trespasses. It's the biggest suspension of disbelief there is: the idea that certain "special" characters are "above" pesky things like justice and moral responsibility. They certainly shouldn't be penalized for their "lapses," especially if they're really, really attractive and seem to be sorry about killing dozens of people in cold blood.

Fandom. It kills me.

Yeah, they pretty much wrote "MITCHELL WILL DIE AND GEORGE IS THE ONE WHO WILL KILL HIM" in big neon letters. I think the only real difference Aidan Turner's leaving makes is that it's a permanent death rather than a temporary one.

The gun was fairly placed on the wall and they kept reminding characters and audience about it all season.

Totally fair. Beautifully done.
