I think Selmy did not recognize Tyrion, because he was wearing his wooden armor and helmet and he did not expect to see him either.
i so agree on john. either he'll warg into ghost or melisandre will resurrect him. there is a third option though, bran could also maybe make a blue zombie out of him, since martin humanized one of those so recently and made it clear that bran has eyes all over the north now.
