1)  I am NOT advocating doing this.  I personally think it's dangerous.  (If the phrase "President Santorum" doesn't give you nightmares, you haven't been paying attention.  And there are people who actually will vote for the guy... 'for realz'!  { quaking fear}  )  That said...

2) I'm posting it because it's funny.

I take my politics seriously, and this is exactly what's wrong with open primaries. Voting for a candidate you don't want is the way to ensure the ultimate downfall and perversion of our political system.
I know you aren't advocating it, but the fact tht some are is pretty awful.

Personally, I think this'd be stupid. Primarily because quite honestly, a huge part of republican voters are well... not all that smart when it comes to voting. These are the same people who voted Bush into office, twice. If Santorum were picked at the primaries, they'd vote for him, no matter how disgusting and despicable the guy is, just cause he's the republican candidate. I mean seriously, just look at Palin and they took her more serious than they did McCain, who at least showed some signs, occasional ones, but still, of being a halfway decent candidate.

True. That said, I am voting in the Republican primary because I live in a state and county were only Republicans are ever elected and as irritating and awful as my House of Representatives rep is... the racist tea party asshole running against him in the primary is (remarkably!) far, far worse. So...yeah, I'm voting for the esconsed asshole that I know instead of the asshole that wrote the state's racist immigration law, because there won't be a democratic opponent in the fall, and if that racist ass who wrote that immigration law is to be stopped from advancing, it'll have to be in the primary.

On the presidential ticket... I'm seriously considering a protest vote of writing in Stephn Colbert (because I cannot in good conscience give my vote to any of the jerks that are running.)

I actually fear a brokered Republican convention. They could conceivably toss out all these yahoos and nominate someone else who would appear just moderate enough to beat Obama, then govern in the same backward, 19th century way all conservative Republicans do.

I need to watch this when I get home and can get access. Evil workplace tech nazis.

Regarding Rick Santorium? Yes the whole idea of President Santorium gives me nightmares. Right there with you.

And can identify with living in a conservative state...been there, done that (17 years of that actually), *cough*Kansas*cough. ;-)

I got an email from a coworker yesterday encouraging me to participate in Washington's open caucuses for exactly this reason. He suggests we all work to have Newt get Washington's delegates, then hit the bars.

I have no problem if you are voting for the candidate you like. It's people voting for the person they think is terrible that bothers me. If both parties did this we would end up with crap candidates on both sides. It's not a game. The future depends upon us getting good candidates that people have honestly chosen.

And as a republican in a solidly democratic state, I feel your pain. My vote never matters either.
