Nickname in high school?
None.
Sport you were into?
I was a cheerleader
Had a circle of friends?
Yeah. But it was a small town pretty much everyone in the class was close enough to get along. We went from kindergarten to 12th grade all together.
Best subject?
Biology and Literature
Worst subject?
Calculus
A teacher you owe life lessons to?
Mr. Johnson, I suppose. He was the best teacher. He was also the guy that took us on the Sr. Trip and all the Honor's Club conventions.
Describe in one word...
Freshman - good
Sophmore - good
Junior - good
Senior - AWFUL (Senior year just SUCKED!)
Your best friend ?
Susan Anderson (she was my roomate my first two years in college as well). We were friends since we were 3. She lived 6 houses down from me. We were both cheerleaders together. She was always seeking more popularity. Whenever someone more popular would come along she'd usually dump me (while they were usually sniping at her behind her back) and when they hurt her feelings she'd come back to me as her best friend. Because she was a year older, she usually liked to tell herself that she was the leader and I was the follower, but honestly, in my view, she was the follower and I was the lone worlf variety.
Worst friend?
Stacey Griffin. My next door neighbor and friend all my life, who schemed behind my back to become co-captain of the cheerleader squad and making Melinda Captain. The fact that the whole squad wanted to vote them OUT of that position a few months later doesn't cover the sense of betray that she did it in the first place.
Worst enemy?
Melinda Byrd. Did I mention that she cut deals to be head cheerleader? Grr! Figures she grew up to be a lawyer.
Cafeteria food sucked?
Naturally
Wore uniforms?
Only if it was pep-rally day.
How was the prom?
I was the prom chairman. I ran the damn thing.
Who were the prom king and queen?
We didn't have one.
Any achievements? (Okay, look, I was a disgusting overachiever. I admit it. I was nauseating.)
Honor Society Secretary, Treasurer of Junior Engineers Technical Society, Prom Chairman, Cheerleader, Class Secretary, Treasurer of the Belle Letres, Academic Team (or whatever it was when you had teams that played that jeopardy like game) , Sr. Who's Who -- Best School Spirit (which was a joke. Gad, I hated that school my Sr. year. And on the more pretend ballot "Most Likely to have a shoe collection rivalling Imelda Marcos," 3 time winner of "Class Beauty" in the yearly beauty pageant (look, it was funded by the Jr. Engineeers and if you were in the club and you were female you were REQUIRED to be in the damned silly thing), "National Cheeleader Association - All-American, International Cheerleader Foundation Individual Achievement ribbon winner (3 times), 6 time team of the National Cheerleader Association Spirit Stick (Awarded to squad), 2 time winner of National Cheerleader Association (squad) Regional winner. 3 time International (hahaha) Cheerleader Foundation (squad) regional winner, semi-finalist in the National Cheerleader Association National championships (squad), 2 time Art Contest winner, 2 years as writer on school paper.
Were you popular?
Eh. Sure as hell didn't FEEL that way. I suppose I hung out on the outer ring of the crowd that was "popular" but I was never ever popular within that crowd. On the other hand I know that to those outside that group, I appeared to be popular. None of it was real, but I know I had the trappings of popularity. It was just nothing THERE there. I wasn't actually popular. Didn't have dates. Wasn't always invited to parties. Honestly, the trappings are all rather empty. I did love cheerleading for the sport of it (though the politics SUCKED!)
Best song that reminds you of high school?
Anything by Van Halen.
