Childhood Favourites
With emphasis on my earlier childhood...say up to sixth grade
Movie: How early? Early, early, I was your typical Disney girl with a love for "The Aristocats" and "Cinderella." Slightly older and I'm a "Raiders of the Lost Arc" gal.
Toy(s): "Newborn" baby doll, Disco Barbie, Spirograph, and LiteBrite.
Birthday party (yours or one you attended): I don't remember anything particular about the ones in my early childhood. I think I had one that was at a roller rink once. Most memorable was my 16th and it was a surprise party.
Clothing: I have a picture of myself as a kid in purple hip huggers. And I remember throwing a tantrum in Sears at a very young age because I wanted a Heidi dress.
Song: Disney commanded my life as a tot. I guess I loved the jazzy rendition of "Everybody wants to be a cat, because a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at. Everybody wants to join the feline scene. . ." And my sister (12 years my senior) would alway be playing The Who's "Tommy" at bed time so I knew the entire rock opera from a very young age.
Book: Kipling's "Just So Stories" with "The Elephant's Child" and "The Cat who Walked By Himself" as my favorites. The other (which I have in storage somewhere) was a book I can't name but it was an illustrated short stories with a bunch of characters on a quest to kill a dragon. When I started reading myself I was a "Trixie Belden Mysteries" fanatic (I collected the enter set of something like 36 novels. . .and they're still in the attic somewhere).
TV Show: I loved Carol Burnette's show. I remember being allowed to stay up late on Saturday's in order to watch the show. I also liked Bob Newhart and M*A*S*H* as a little kid. Go figure. You wouldn't think that would appeal to the tot set.
Thing to do after school: Latchkey kid so "Gilligan's Island", "Star Trek," "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie," and "The Brady Bunch" . . .hmm... no wonder I was grew up into a sci-fi/fantasy nut. :)
