Hit the plant store before it became too hot to plant anything (even though it's already in the mid-80s around here).  I like to use annuals in the pots and beds in the front yard (the back yard is exclusively perennials and evergreens... and those are the ones who have proven themselves immune to neglect.  I have  a Darwinian approach to gardening -- only the strong survive.  This probably explains why my back yard is dominated by antique roses, daylilies, and irises, though I did plant new azaleas last month).   In front, however, I go with annuals which can survive the extreme heat of summer and I tend to stick with tried and true.

Anyway, I picked up:

Mexican Heather -  (in front bed w/ the Crepe Myrtle)

Angelonia -  (that's the purple, not the yellow)

Purslane -  (infilling the pot with the Oleander)

Sweet Potato Vine -  (dropping this into the same pot with my existing Oleander)

And old-fashioned Snapdragons -  (dropping this into the pot with my tiny Italian Cypress)
