Someone has to stop me
Nov. 1st, 2004 08:59 pmUsually I'm... well... I'm stingy (I admit it. I'm quite the tightwad). But lately? I seriously don't know what's gotten into me. I can go ages without buying clothes, but in the last few months I've bought a LOT of clothes... and shoes. This is so unlike me.
Anyway, got trapped in traffic tonight... near the mall. Mall beckoned. By the time I got out I had spent close to $200!! Guh! I have to stop. Stop. Stop, Stop.
That said... I got the cutest dark red cotton trenchcoat. Nice green silk sweater. And a truly odd white camisole w/sweater bolero jacket combo thingie trimmed in ecru satin ribbon (so damn impractical! I think I'm possessed. It just... it fit so nicely. And it's kind of neat looking. And it was flattering.)
I'm sure it all has to do with the fact that this morning I was having one of those "I hate all my clothes" moment. And true enough, I've lost enough weight that I can no longer wear my "fat clothes" but haven't lost enough so that I can wear my "thin clothes."
And I also find myself thinking about cy girl's comments on color. I really need to go unearth books on the psychology of color again. Because I find it just damn funny that there are colors I cannot wear. I'm not talking about "can't wear" in terms of my coloring. You can always find some shade of pink that will flatter someone's coloring. But I seem to have this really weird thing about pink. I can't wear it. Just can't. On the other hand, I pick up reds all the time. I'm trying to resist the urge for black. I own SO many black clothes. I've been forcing myself NOT to buy black. Of course now I have brown trousers... and after years of wearing black, I only have one pair of brown shoes to my name... so now I'm going to have to buy brown shoes.
Someone has to stop me. :)

Date: 2004-11-01 11:14 pm (UTC)LOL! I have the exact same problem with blue, I own way too many clothes in pretty much any shade of blue you can think of (except the fugly ones, of course ;)). I've also been trying to branch out a bit more, all the results are mixed.
And congrats on the weight loss, that's great!

Date: 2004-11-02 02:07 am (UTC)I know it's because I'm thin enough to not totter too badly on heels, and to put my rear end into pretty undies. But it's still foolish, because on a day to day basis? NOBODY sees the undies. I could wear cheap cotton just fine. And I am fitting into some of my thinner clothes, so I shouldn't justify new ones. But I do. Bought a blouse and skirt recently that I totally didn't need, I just wanted. Have plenty of clothes that fit. they're just all ten years old and I don't want to wear them.

Date: 2004-11-02 07:28 am (UTC)Brown, especially a dark chocolate shade, is becoming my new black. Even before I started thinking hard about color, I noticed that brown works better with the colors I like to wear. I also have pants in charcoal gray which go well with cooler pastels and red. Oddly enough, I have nothing in navy which years ago was the basis of my wardrobe.
