Ten Things I Have Done That Others (I Assume on my friend's list) Might Not Have, or something like that...

1.  Built a scale structural model of a 32-story skyscraper.

2.  Swam in the Blue Grotto on the island of Capri:  http://www.capri-island.com/capri/tour/T12.html

3.  Attended the 1993 Sugar Bowl at the Superdome in New Orleans. (Where my team won the national college football title.  Bestest game evah!)

4.  Competed in the NCA National Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida (How Eliza Dushku in 'Bring It On' of me...)

5.  Won a year-long soap magazine subscription in a magazine contest for writing the best "opus" to my favorite soapy ship. (What?! I was a teenager! I wouldn't obsess over a ship like that anymo...er...yeah, whatever.)

6.  Deliberately beaten a hole in the wall of a hospital room with an I.V. pole.  (It wasn't a fit of rage. We were going to demolish the room anyway and we wanted to know the construction of the wall).  Also... accidentally set off fire sprinklers in a hospital.

7.  Been kissed by a total stranger who didn't speak English in Boboli Gardens in Florence, Italy (It was clear that he was doing it on a dare from his friends).

8.  Ridden the "Mindbender" roller-coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia 36 times in one day (I REALLY don't advise doing this BTW)

9.  Sat in a car with a co-worker on the way back from a business trip with him telling me that he's been abducted by aliens... repeatedly.  (Don't advise doing this either).

10. Taken ski lessons in Zermat, Switzerland

Did your boatman abandon you in the place too? I always wondered what in the heck would have happened if we hadn't been decent swimmers. He didn't ask before he left. He just left and we had to swim back to the pier.

Oh my God! I'm a terrible swimmer. If this had happened to me, I probably would have quite literally died.

Heh. Want me to make it worse? The opening to the cave is really really shallow, and the island is originally volcanic so even touching the rocks cut you. The only way out of the cave is to swim over the top which is so shallow that it's pretty much impossible to get through the opening without hurting yourself. OR... you can dive down about 4ft and swim UNDER the opening coming out on the other side in the sea. (I dove under). But I did wonder what in the hell would happen if he had gone off and left a weak swimmer. He left four of us in the grotto. One girl (who was frightened of swimming) wouldn't dive in. I always wondered what would have happened if she had because I'm not at all sure how we would have gotten her out because she would have FREAKED at the idea of having to dive under water in order to get out of the cave.

Just reading this gave me the heebie-jeebies. ::shudders:: That girl did get out, right? Was she all cut up by having to go out the shallow way? I can't believe they just left you out there!

No, no. She never jumped in. She stayed in the boat when it left us (and I'm glad she did because our cameras were in there). It was those of us who jumped in who were left... and we hadn't expected that. Luckily the idea of jumping in at all was intimidating enough that only the strong swimmers jumped. It wasn't all that bad, actually. But if someone was a weak swimmer they totally would have freaked out because there was no good way to climb out and the water is VERY deep. Alls well that ends well. No one was hurt or even hysterical. I just always wondered what would have happened if she had gotten out with the rest of us. Glad she didn't.
