Sitting at my desk eating lunch and reading a USAToday article with a list of questions about books.  I figure, why not answer the same questions myself.  So, not a meme, but ... basically a meme.

What book is on your night stand now?
Redshirts -  John Scalzi  (currently reading) And on 'virtual nightstand' since it's Kindle.
At Home - Bill Bryson (just finished) (also Kindle)
Doomsday Book - Connie Willis (just hanging around.  I read it a couple of years ago.  It's an actual book).

When and where do you like to read?
I'm not particular about either of those things so it tends to boil down to "When it's convenient" and "Where it is convenient"

What was the last truly great book you read?
Probably The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman. It's not flawless, but it's not something I'll forget either.  It was, in places, heartbreaking, and, for me, not many books are.

Are you a fiction or a nonfiction person? What’s your favorite literary genre? Any guilty pleasures?
I read both fiction and non-fiction. And I read several genres.  My guilty pleasures are probably urban fantasy and romance.

What was the best book you read as a student? What books over the years have most influenced your thinking?
1984, Lies My Teacher Told Me  (And I'm sure many others but it's lunch and I'm not doing much deep thinking right now).

What is your ideal reading experience? Do you prefer a book that makes you laugh or makes you cry? One that teaches you something or one that distracts you?
Make me laugh and cry.  And making me think along the way is good as well.

What were your favorite books as a child? Did you have a favorite character or hero?
Trixie Belden novels.  I devoured those things as a child. Also the Anne of Green Gables series and the Little House on the Prairie series.

What are your reading habits? Do you take notes? Electronic or paper?
Habits?  I read for pleasure, interest, or 'brain vacations'.  And  read it in book, Kindle, or audible book form.

Read any good memoirs recently?
Do Bill Bryson travel books count?  Because other than that, I haven't read a memoir in recent memory.

What’s the best movie based on a book you’ve seen recently?
I tried reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter  which is about to be a movie, but the book is TERRIBLE.  Just terrible.  So I suppose the last book/movie I read (as in completed) was The Help  by Kathryn Stockett.  Though I had just read  The Hunger Games prior to that.   The only one of the three I've seen the actual movie of (yet.  The Help is on Showtime this weekend) is The Hunger Games. (Although if TV shows count, there's the whole Game of Thrones thing.)

What do you plan to read next?
I'm thinking of re-reading A Short History of Nearly Everything.
