Still reading the same book as yesterday (14

Nothing at all like a haunted house story.  It's quite LOST-like.

And I give the author credit for piquing my curiosity.  I'm more than half way through and still haven't figured out what exactly is going on.  I've almost dismissed the "It's aliens" theory and am beginning to wonder... Cthulhu?

(Actually "Wolfram and Hart" remains the most apropos theory... or it would if it was AtS).

Nice character development as well.

ETA (2/3rds of the way through):

Bwhahahaha!  Now, I'm really beginning to think it's Cthulhu!

Also, bravo to the (totally unexplained within the novel) shout-out of a character saying, "He was the Walter Bishop of his time."  *snort*   I first thought "What scientist would that be?  The name sounds familiar..."  Then "Oooooohhhhhh!"  (It's a Fringe reference)

More overt shout-outs are given to Scooby-Doo as it's a running joke between a pair of characters that are flirting.  Nate pegged Veek as "Our Velma."  And she keeps snarking at him, asking whether he's Fred or Shaggy. (He claims that he's "Scooby.")

And heh to the moment when they discover "the machine" and keep trying to describe it.  Veek says "Well, a Victorian supercomputer is the last thing I expected to find." And Roger comes out with "Holy shit, it's steam punk."

Googling the publisher, it looks like this is a...  'boutique' press (that grew enough to hook up with Simon & Schuster for its more popular titles).  So one step up from fanfic  (In fact there's a book on their website that, book unread, looks suspiciously like it may have begun its life as Supernatural fanfic.)

The e-book I'm reading does have sort of a fanfic/fandom feel... but in a fun way.  It's has flaws (like why are these people investigating this?  Unlike LOST, they aren't actually trapped in this location), but it's got enjoyable characters and intriguingly weird mysteries.

...All of which convinces me even more that it's Cthulhu!  Hee!
