And those are Chechen terrorists after all... I was talking to my husband after this that it's so similar to terror acts Russians were suffering for years - bombs in trash cans, on subway and bus stops, near large shopping areas etc.
And now we know they are from Chechnya... No words. I don't understand why people are doing this. Hope the second one is caught and will spend many painful years in prison.
Yeah, I was gonna say that these are not sooo dissimilar to other violent young men with weapons and the desire to kill innocents that the US has encountered in the past few months!
So glad my parents are away from their home in Boston right now!
Unfortunately, doesn't apply here. From what we are learning about them, they were very much in tune with jihad movement in Caucasian region. The youngest brother kept VK page (that's Russian analog of Facebook) and was steeped in our Russian teen culture, not American.
But it doesn't make much difference, they are just other young guys who went off rails from virtual hatred in a virtual world. Don't see much difference between them and Sandy Hook killer, indeed.
The only thing which may play a role is that with Chechens you have to check the big family/clan networks. They might not have been alone, could be more of this coming. :( Their father has already threatened retaliation if something happens to the youngest guy, and I wouldn't take that lightly.
Still rather home grown though. His uncle said that he came to the U.S. as a six year old and so far no one has indicated that he had left the country since (though his brother/co-conspirator did in 2012.)
And, yeah, the father came off...strangely calling him an 'angel' in the wake of a bombing that dismemebered and killed innocent by-standers (including small children), murdered an MIT campus policeman, carjacking, theft from the one they carjacked, had shootouts with the cops, and apparently had a bomb in their house/apartment that has to be detonated in a 'controlled explosion'.
Only 'angel' that can be compared to is the Armagheddon-type.
