The thing that makes me scratch my head about this is that Prospect Park and ABC are BOTH owned by the same parent company. It's a bit like that old commercial where Coke was suing Diet Coke for copyright infringement...
Just like a real-life soap opera, there's drama getting One Life to Live and All My Children to the Interwebs.
Prospect Park, which will launch both soaps online via Hulu and iTunes on Monday, April 29, has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against ABC, the network that licensed the rights to the company, Deadline.com reports. In the complaint, Prospect Park claims ABC has been sabotaging their plans to bring the soaps online by breaking the licensing agreement.
"These shows will go forward, and Prospect will address its rights in court," read the filing. "Regardless of how successful Prospect may be, the fact remains that ABC did not deliver what it promised, Prospect did not get what it paid for, and Prospect is now entitled to recover millions of dollars in damages for ABC's egregious conduct." Prospect Park is seeking monetary damages of at least $25 million.
The news comes on the heels of ABC announcing that One Life to Live's Kristen Alderson, Michael Easton and Roger Howarth would all return to General Hospital, which has reportedly caused some tension between the network and Prospect Park.

Date: 2013-04-19 09:35 pm (UTC)Apparently GH tried to cut a deal with Prospect Park, but they are insanely hard to work with. Roger Howarth actually spent two months taping with them.
What they wanted was for "other" GH regulars to make appearances on AMC and OLTL to help launch them and get viewers. But the actors refused.ABC can't make the actors do a web soap opera if they don't want to.
Also Prospect Park took forever to get their act together. What were the poor actors supposed to do? Wait around? And apparently they aren't paying that much. Susan Lucci took forever to rejoin, and I'm not sure she has. Also they are filmed in NYC, while a lot of these people live in LA.
It's hilarious they are suing, because they are basically suing a subsidiary of their parent company. LOL! Oh dear.
And I thought working for the government was dicey. It's nothing compared to the insane entertainment industry.
Oh - GH has gotten interestingly wonky. They froze Lulu, and now she has no memory outside of being married to the evil Stavros (who somehow managed to survive). Luke finally killed Helena. (OR so we think). And Brenda has allegedly slept with Michael (Carly and Sonny (adopted son) (it's not clear)). Plus no clue who the three actors, Howarth, Alderson or Easton will return as. Howarth is taping both shows, jumping between them - he made a deal. But Alderson and Easton didn't. Guess Howarth got a good package and they didn't? (shrugs).
I'm highly entertained by GH, but as you know - I have a HUGE weakness for serials particularly soap operas. I'm not embarrassed about it anymore. There's worse things - I could be obsessed with reality shows or gasp Wrestling.
