That was wonderful. It reminds me of the other elderly lady who couldn't find one of her cats after another natural disaster (hurricane in Florida? Don't remember precisely), and when she went with a film crew to her house, her cat came strolling up to her after being gone for, I think, three days. :-)
In floods. Thanks for posting this. I loved that lady - when I'm that old that's how I want to be: brave, stoic, accepting, with all my faculties intact.
With so much loss, having the puppy survive has to be small (but meaningful) comfort. It's always terrible to lose a pet. Glad the poor little thing survived.
