Photos include the sorry state of my sodden guest bedroom and one completely unperturbed puppy.

So, the current state of my guest bedroom...

Have ripped out the carpet and padding all the way to the piano (I've got to get help to mess with anything around the piano.)  At least the carpet wasn't wet around it.  So what I've got here is exposed concrete which seems to be drying out.

Someone appears not at all bothered by the dishevelment of the master bedroom, even if she's disguising herself as a black spot.

Amazingly unperturbed, is she not?

As for the master bedroom floors... so far so good.  Let's hope that they don't cup, warp or blister over the weekend.

And in one of the few non-trashed rooms in the house, the galvanized wire storage baskets that I got from Ballard's.:

Just keep telling yourself, this too will pass. But I know it's hard; I've been through the same sort of thing twice. Did the insurance people say anything to you about electric fans to help dry things out?

Humidity is so high, there's no point in raising the windows, though I have the air conditioner working and ceiling fans on. I also went out and bought dessicants last night so I have two buckets of DampRid in the guest bedroom and one in the master.

Removing the carpet takes out most of the water. The slab seems to be drying and it hasn't seemed to be in the drywall.

Hopefully there won't be further flooding and some work can be done over the weekend.

If all else fails, an old co-worker of mine has gone into the water removal and mold remidiation business. Hope I won't need his help, though!

Argh. What a mess. But unperturbed puppy makes everything better.

I know everyone says it (and for every one of us it's true), but she really is the sweetest puppy in the world.

Other than a slight bit of territorial instinct (she HATES seeing chipmunks or cats in her yard. :) she has the softest disposition. So gentle and cuddly.

And *sigh* yes, the house is a mess.

The bedroom floors seem to have survived (Yay!), and I'm managing to unload most of the clothes that were displaced due to closet construction. So it's getting a little better.

But it's going to take several(!) weeks to get the guest room back into order because it's going to be re-painted (doesn't HAVE to be, but since I currently have no flooring in there, it's the best time to do so) and then re-floored.

Looks like you've gotten lots of the mess and water cleaned up. Now it's just wait and see. Here's hoping it will all just dry out!

Thank goodness the carpet got pulled as fast as it did because (even stowed on the porch) by Saturday morning it was beginning to smell like soured bath towels.

But, it was removed in time, everything seems to have dried, and the hardwood floors appear to have survived.

So now is the task to try to fix whatever drainage issues I can to insure this won't happen again, and then try to return the guest bedroom to some semblance of order.

Oh dear - what a mess - good luck with getting it sorted!

Thanks.

It's (marginally) better today. (Though it'll be weeks getting the guest bedroom back into order), and at least the master bedroom floors appear to have survived.

When my bedroom flooded a couple of years ago they put in these huge, powerful fans that dried the wood out really quickly. Granted it was Seattle in September, not the deep south in July, but they did help!

Luckily it seems to have been very much "flash" in the flash flood so it never soaked into the drywall and was just on the floor. Once I removed the carpet and sopped up the drywall, it has dried out fairly quickly on its own (and luckily it only lightly sprinkled once this weekend. Other than that we had exemplary weather, which has helped.)

Okay envious of the wire baskets from Ballards. Am tempted.

Not having much room for storage in the kitchen, I had thought going vertical on the island could be helpful.

(And in a sad bit of "doesn't it figure..." I had ordered this: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/crawford-coat-rack/224876?redirect=y

for the guest bedroom, as part of my closet re-organization (with a little relocation into the guest bedroom) BEFORE everything went to hell. And it arrived... Saturday. *sigh*. Still, looks like once I have everything back into place, it'll be useful.

Oh pretty. Want. Now I'm lusting after the coat rack. But no clue where I'd put it. Have space and storage issues. Also, delivery issues.

Does it require assemblage? I think you can still use it in any case.

Yeah, it has to be assembled, but it's really easy. It's in 4 pieces (top shelf, bottom shelf, two sides). They have the parts numbered so I only had to align the numbers (i.e. align the hole marked "3" with the other hole marked "3" and then use the screw that was in the bag of screws marked "3". They even included the alan wrench that works the screws, so it's all pretty self-explanatory. )

I am so sorry about the flooding! UGH!!!

Thanks.

And at least the hardwoods seem to have survived (I'll have to live with exposed concrete in the guest bedroom for a few weeks).

Oh boy, hope your wood will be okay. Do you think the flooding effected any of the supports of your house ? I know with my grandfather's house his washing maching kept over flowing and his bathroom about collapsed. So that was a fun trip having to replace all the supports after he had passed away, and insurances are a$$holes along with FEMA. At least the dog takes it better than my cats would have.

It's slab on grade, so I don't need to worry about foundations and it didn't seem to touch the drywall so the studs should be fine (short of there being continued problems, which since there never has been before, hopefully a little yard work can prevent it ever happening again).

And, yeah, insurance is spotty (but I won't complain too much as it replaced my roof a few years ago.)

And other than dogs or chipmunks in "her" yard, puppy remains pretty undisturbed by anything. :)

Looney Dog, our chihuahua rescue has hatred for anything in the yard or streets. As pictured she is a devil dog and barker who takes great offense against motorcycles and bikes in her street.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your floor too.

So horrible, having to deal with this stuff.

Master bedroom floor seems to have survived (thankfully).

Guest bedroom will take work, but at least I had always planned to replace that floor.

It'll be okay in the end (though, sigh, could've done without the trouble).
