So, So Tired
Jul. 29th, 2013 10:13 amSo, still trying to cure the problems created by the flash flood (according to weather ap, we've had nearly 9 inches of rain this month, two of which have been in the last week, three of which on the day of the flood).
Have now dug a French drain around the corner and down one side of the house, dumping it out behind the fence. It took 50ft of pipe. So... yeah.
Did find paid help for one day, but the rest of it? Basically my mom and myself. (Give retired mom a hand for being a kick-ass trouper).
From time to time I go to the gym with my sister, who insists on workouts being both cardio and weights, and let me say up front, that in no way whatsoever matches digging a 50ft ditch in Alabama clay in July. Just saying. I can come away from that gym workout without a twinge, but right now... I'm hurting.
Last week's dig did a number on my back that took a week to go away. This weekend, I was being really careful with my back and so was lifting with my legs...and now my thighs are so sore I cannot stoop. Nope, just cannot. Just... can't. (I also had a huge blister at the base of my thumb that tore and... ouchie!)
Consumed a lot of carbs this weekend too (including lamb in a pita with onions, peppers, skordalia and a side of basmati rice, Pad Thai (w/rice noodles), and a slice of Italian cream cake! Yum.) Because, looking at the MyFitnessPal "earned" calories (what you get from working out), even eating 2000+ calories each day I was clocking in below 1200 calories (the MFP minimum) for net calories. And I was being conservative for how many hours of "Gardening" that I was doing (and I don't know that "Gardening" adequately reflects digging a trench in quasi-wet red/orange clay, laying 1ft square concrete pavers, infilling with 5 gallon buckets of gravel, and spreading pine mulch in 90+ degree heat with a humidity in 70% range. (Oh, we also ate (almost all of) 2 watermelons this weekend for rehydration).
My shoulders are also sunburned, so at this point I'm literally an Alabama redneck.
So, yeah, exhausted and rather looking forward to having am inside day-job at a computer.
