Honest responses I would have to threads in the MyFitnessPal forum if I wanted to wade into kerfuffles:
To the poster hoping to lose 160lbs and complaining that you're 'just too stuffed' eating 700 calories a day to eat any more and yet you STILL aren't losing weight and so just want to give up:
To male poster asking "Why are women so jealous? Is it hormonal?":
To Poster wanting to know how many calories she should eat to look like a Victoria's Secret Model:
To 18 year old girl 'terrified' of gaining weight who subsists on 600 calories a day (and 'CAN'T eat more'!) who says she 'hates herself' when she eats, 'hates herself' if she treats herself to any sort of 'bad' food, 'hates herself' if she misses a workout, and weighs herself multiple times a day, while utterly refusing to eat more calories despite every poster on the thread telling her to do so:
To the IFYM crowd:
To the poster hoping to lose 160lbs and complaining that you're 'just too stuffed' eating 700 calories a day to eat any more and yet you STILL aren't losing weight and so just want to give up:
Either you're inaccurate in your calorie totals (though you deny this vocally and act persecuted when people wonder whether you're correctly logging calories) or you have a medical problem and need to see a doctor. If you're (legitimately) eating 700 calories a DAY, you would be losing weight. No, you really would. That's barely enough calories to function. Your brain alone needs 500. At any rate, 700 calories a day isn't healthy!
Also, you are darn well capable of eating more than 700 calories in a day. I know this by the fact that you have 160 lbs TO LOSE (not weighs 160, wants to LOSE 160 lbs). So, no, I do not buy that you CAN'T eat more than 700 calories because you'd be just too stuffed.
Finally, if you're unwilling to take the advice of the many posters telling you that you have to eat more than 700 calories a day, why on earth did you start the thread? Did you want kudos for starvation? Or were you looking for an excuse to quit... in which case I'm guessing you will begin eating more than 700 calories a day, proving that you can indeed can eat more than 700 calories.
To male poster asking "Why are women so jealous? Is it hormonal?":
1) You are a sexist tool.
2) All of these women responding to you with "You're so right! Womenz are just JEALOUS!" are self-hating sexists as well.
To Poster wanting to know how many calories she should eat to look like a Victoria's Secret Model:
Unless you look like a Victoria's Secret model because of incredibly good genetics, no diet in the world is going to give you her body. Hell, not even Victoria's Secret models truly have Victoria's Secret model bodies. They fast before the photoshoot, have boob-jobs, have professional make-up, professional lighting, professional spray-tans, and professional photoshop to boot.
Sweetie,
You have an eating disorder.
You need to tell your parents. Pronto.
Despite 'feeling full' and 'having lots of energy', 600 calories a day is ANOREXIA. So is all the self-loathing, self-punishment over food, and your expressed 'terror' of weight gain when you were never overweight to begin with... as evidenced by your obsessing over being 7 lbs over your 'ideal.' (Having seen the documentary "Thin" where an anorexic's expressed 'ideal' was to weigh 57 lbs, I'm wondering whether your 'ideal' might perhaps be unrealistic from the get-go. No one knows because you won't say what your goal is, which is one of many things in your posts fueling other posters' suspicions that you are anorexic.)
To the IFYM crowd:
Stop with the fucking Pop-Tart ice cream sandwiches posts. You may be some sort of gym rat who spends a bazillion hours a day working out, so "It Fits Your Macros" to have a scoop of ice cream slathered between two frosted Pop Tarts for an after dinner 'snack' (or at least you claim to be able to do this) without going over your daily calories, but this is not true of most people, making your posts fucking annoying.

Date: 2013-08-07 07:19 pm (UTC)And seriously, Pop-Tart ice cream sandwiches??? There are such things?

Date: 2013-08-08 02:13 am (UTC)And, yeah, apparently pop-tart ice cream sandwiches is a thing. Beats the hell out of me why. Seems like a way to ruin perfectly good ice cream with...well... pop tarts.
There are better, more delicious ways, to indulge a sweet tooth.

Date: 2013-08-08 02:20 am (UTC)I mean, I love sweets, but frosted pop tarts with ice cream? I mean, you could just pour Karo corn syrup on top of ice cream and it would basically be the same thing (and would also ruin the ice cream).

Date: 2013-08-08 02:22 am (UTC)Most of the people you just shrug off as being full of crap. This girl was seriously upsetting because she seemed perfectly serious about what she was saying and what she was saying was very unhealthy not only nutritionally but psychologically.

Date: 2013-08-08 02:40 am (UTC)I mean, even if I could manage my workout such that I could eat a 1200 calorie snack, I wouldn't be snacking on two frosted pop tarts ruining my ice cream.
More than that, to believe that someone actually DOES have it in their macros to eat that as a 'snack' they had better be working out like Michael Phelps because otherwise I'm calling bullshit.
And yeah, the 18 year old freaking out over the thought of gaining an ounce if she went over 600 calories was all kinds of worrisome. Everything she posted in that thread sounded like anorexia.

Date: 2013-08-08 02:18 am (UTC)I feel awful for that anorexic girl, though. Having known several anorexics and bulemics (including one who basically killed herself through the latter disorder), I know that the self-loathing these people experience is both horrible and heartbreaking. I hope she gets help.

Date: 2013-08-08 02:46 am (UTC)And the anorexic girl was scary.
I did watch the HBO documentary on anorexia recently (and googled "where are they now?" after it to discover one of the girls killed herself (and she had seemed the nicest, most rational one) and another -- who was really worrisome in the film -- had fallen into heroine addiction on top of her eating disorder. Watching those girls, it was clear that this is a mental disorder manifesting symptoms through food issues. They had real emotional problems which was how the girl on MFP posts became so disturbing. It was clear that she has real emotional problems and an incredibly unhealthy relationship with food.
