Stupid Human Tricks

So on top of all the other stuff going on in my subdivision:

the litigious threat problem
someone died this weekend (she'd had a hospice nurse for the last five months, so this wasn't anything shocking or suspicious, just sad).
the widening of the highway that borders the subdivision (and whether ALDOT will condemn our buffer zone.  They say not, but they're also being clear as mud about it.)

There have been opportunistic break-ins of cars in driveways (discussed with the sheriff at the same time as discussing 'the crank'.  Sheriff office says it's been happening all over the county, so it's not our area specific.)  Anyway, turns out that one of the cars that was broken into had two guns stolen out of it.

Bet the guy had guns in there for teh freedomz protection.

Wonder how 'protected' he feels now, knowing that criminals had them in his front yard.*  (For all I know, he's one of the ones who fantasizes that he's Bruce Willis and he'd be the 'good guy' with a gun against the bad guy with a gun... except of course the bad guy just took two of his guns...)

* This irritated thought brought to you after having read the idiotic comments left in an article about Starbucks requesting that people please, please not bring guns into their business.  Please...

People's gun fetishes love totally baffle me because more and more people seem to be irrational about them.  (I read another article this morning about a legislator in Oklahoma wanting to launch a state investigation re: public ammunition shortages [insert his Obama conspiracy theory here] because, apparently he was told by a Walmart employee that they were in such short supply that they were only allowed to sell  100 rounds per person per day.

Per day, mind you.  Per. effing. day.

This constitutes a 'shortage'.

Seriously, people, WTF.

Wow. I wonder how many more guns that guy has in his house. It scares me to imagine how many guns there are in my central Texas neighborhood.

The gun stuff makes me despair!

Sorry about the loss of your friend

Actually, I never met her. She had been chronically ill for years. I've seen her night nurse on smoke breaks when walking my dog in the evenings. When I saw a fire truck, the EMTs, and five sheriff's cars drive up Sunday afternoon, I guessed that it probably meant that she had died. (We got confirmation from her family yesterday.) Sad but not unexpected.

And, yeah, the gun stuff these days has gone beyond anything rational into the land of teh crazee excess.

Look at the two recalls in CO of all places over advocating gun control. The people in this country are just nuts about their guns.

I'm so pissed about the negligent way guns are handled. I just wrote to the workplace savety survey my university did, that I would feel a lot saver, if I didn't know that some lunatic is running around with a gun on campus. (which is the case at the moment, because the Uni has no rules against bringing guns there and so that creep (http://www.theochem.at/theochem/html/showuser.php?user=43) who rutinely speaks of women as cunts and mollests male students, had a fucking shooting range in the cellar of the old chemistry building).

And then they wonder how it comes that some creep hunter who ran amok yesterday in Austria had ammunition that could pierce Kevlar vests. But no no, we totally have strickt gun laws! grr

But... but FREEDOMZ!

See, gunowners have the RIGHT to feel safe by carrying loaded firearms wherever they go (the rest of us who might feel rather less safe with morons toting loaded firearms wherever they go... not so much).

I'm totally with you on the gun thing. One of my high school classmates works for Starbucks so he's been linking us to articles. I just don't even get the mentality of people to need to open carry their weapons. WHAT ARE YOU SO F*ING AFRAID OF?

Go Starbucks.

I have become absolutely incoherent with rage on the gun issue -- torn between despair and fury as I think these mass shootings are only going to continue to escalate, and the gun nuts are really gone completely around the bend when it comes to "protecting gun rights!!!!" They won't even entertain an honest discussion regarding gun laws -- no, it's all "GUN FREEDOMZ!!!! PROTECTION!!!! SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTSSSSS!!!!!!!!" all in caps and all totally without reason or thought.

It just saddens me so much. I even used to own guns -- and remember how to care for them and store them properly. But now... gad.

How can 100 rounds a day possibly be enough when the zombie apocalypse could happen at any moment? Honestly, I wish someone would just step the fuck up and overturn some of these insane gun laws on consitutional grounds. Because the second ammendment, they're getting it wrong.
