It's one reason I continue to love Fred. She's the only one to just look at Spike and tell him to his face "You're worth saving."
Buffy did as well, of course, but good grief, he'd earned that from her by then. Fred did it with nothing to gain for herself. She just saw him as someone who had innate worth, and she's close to being alone in that.
