2) Angel

Angel has this prophecy that he (or maybe Spike) would save the world and either die or become human as a reward. Instead, Angel becomes an evil law firm's middle-manager, brings the apocalypse to LA (but only LA), turns into a masked serial killer, has such terrible sex with Buffy that he creates a whole universe and then kills poor Giles.

I loved show!Angel, but comics!Angel is insufferable. He's a self-aggrandizing, monomoniacal, blameshifting, sexist douche (with every other character in the comic forced -- no matter how improbably -- into his cheerleading squad). Poor Angel, he's just misunderstood. It all would've made sense if Buffy would've just shut-up and listened... when he explained how becoming a demigod was worth the death of most of the planet. Sheesh, women! (And it's 'not sexist' because 'it's true'... apparently)

I know the comics have been coming out a while, and most of the people whose views I respect hate them. But I'd never seen them. I went into a comic shop just before Xmas and bought the first Buffy one at great expense (about $40). And found it fairly bizarre. My kids (who have watched all Buffy and Angel with me more than once) weren't terribly convinced by the art. I found the story a bit incomprehensible. And going on what people have said about the comics, I don't think I'll be spending any more....
