Heh, I have to admit the "devil beating his wife" is the euphemism of my childhood too.  Wonder where in the hell that ever came from.

ETA1: Which reminds me of this hilarious fanfic summary posted on [livejournal.com profile] badfic_quotes this morning:

>>Jesus cheated on his husband, Satan, with Nicolas Cage and is now in labour, about to give birth. Includes: MPREG<<

LOL!

ETA2: I am rather gobsmacked by the comment on [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman about "Green Eggs and Ham" promoting rape culture.  I just... why did someone's mind go there?  I can see the line of thought once it's brought up, but why go there?  It's a story for three year olds.  Like Gaiman said, it's a story created to encourage small children to try new foods, because many are reluctant to do so.

I can guarentee you that your average 3 to 5 year old nursery school book listener is not going to be thinking about rape.

LOL! Oh I hadn't read gaiman's post...I should have it sounds hilarious.

Green Eggs and Ham" promoting rape culture.

WTF?? Granted it's been a while since I read that, but seriously?
People can read things into anything apparently...and yes, "why would someone's mind go there??" (And I'm not sure I want to know. Most people's won't.)
