What's with Joss? Seriously, I think there's someone who is so deliberately counter intuitive in what he does. The problem I have with M.E. is I no longer realize whether they are doing something for the desired controversy... or whether they really are just incredibly STUPID.
Basically, what I'm rolling my eyes about are some of Angel's comments from the summary posted about Ep 2 "Just Rewards." We have Angel sayiing that Spike "saving the world" is just Spike-hype and Buffy did most of the work. Okay, is this M.E defensiveness? Or is this M.E. writing Angel as... I don't know. Angel seems to be working overtime to diminish Spike's accomplishements. The thing is, what is M.E. tryiing to accomplish? I mean, you're trying to lure in Spike fans... and you try to tick Spike fans off? WTF? I mean, is M.E. doing this to... lecture us again? Or are they trying to (in their pea brains) "set the record straight" on Chosen? Are they doing it to make Angel look childish? If so, why? Have they not learned from Buffy that having your "hero" behave like a egocentric brat causes problems and alienates fans? I'm just not sure whether M.E. are raging idiots or just self destructive?
I mean, all in all I'm only talking about a few lines, no big deal, and yet it's the mindset behind it that puzzles me. Why does M.E. sabotage themselves all the time?
I pretty much discount some of the characterization of it from the person who summarized it. The person pretty much revealed that there would be this huge disparity in viewpoints when he claimed that everything with Spike since FFL has been "out of character" (honey, when it's been going on for three years, that IS the character, that's not "out of character." Out of character is when a character kills their son, sacrifices him so that they can't have a life and has the woman he L.... in a coma only to show up the next night all chipper and wanting willing to wait forever for the emotionally stunted bint he hasn't spoken more than 4 paragraphs to in the last 4 years). I don't think I'm going to care for the Spike/Harm interaction. Sounds like Season 5 redux (which makes no sense). I do think I'll like the Spike/Fred scene that the summary writer dismissed. And I'm sorry that they seem to have hardened Angel from the original script. Angel was irritating in the original script, but the revamping just made it out and out annoying (and I suspect they probably hardened Spike a little as well). I honestly don't "get" what it is about M.E. that makes them want to go against common sense and make their task more difficult. Joss, Fury, et al have some really bizarre passive aggressive tendencies toward their audience... no wonder BtVS began tanking in the ratings.
