From PEOPLE:

Robin Williams was not only a costar to Sarah Michelle Gellar in the CBS comedy The Crazy Ones – he was the dad "she always dreamed of having."

In a statement to PEOPLE, Gellar reflects on Williams, who died of suicide Monday at the age of 63, and the indelible mark he made on her and her family. Gellar played the straight-laced daughter Sydney to Williams' eccentric ad man Simon in the CBS comedy that was cancelled in May after only one season.

"My life is a better place because I knew Robin Williams," Gellar said. "To my children he was Uncle Robin, to everyone he worked with, he was the best boss anyone had ever known, and to me he was not just an inspiration but he was the Father I had always dreamed of having. There are not enough adjectives to describe the light he was, to anyone that ever had the pleasure to meet him. I will miss him everyday, but I know the memory of him will live on. And to his family, I thank them for letting us know him and seeing the joy they brought him. Us crazy ones love you."

Gellar also went on to say, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

I always suspected that Crazy Ones (a show with huuuuuge potential that really was kind of good) was canceled not because of ratings but because of RW's problems, either with himself or SMG. And honestly, it was 50-50 odds imo, because SMG can be very SMG-y. But it was apparently RW's mental health.

Still so sad.

Does she not get on with her own Dad?

to me he was not just an inspiration but he was the Father I had always dreamed of having.

It seems a hurtful thing to say, to me...

Her own dad died during Buffy. I remember because I was flabbergasted by her statement which was more or less 'good riddance'.

Didn't he abandon her and her mother when she was a kid? Not all of us were lucky enough to have a loving, present dad. I feel bad for her, actually.

I can't help but think Williams has basically abandoned his children as well. :(

She was never close with her father, she always talked about him playing no role in her life and that she would never give him the title of father

I guess I was mostly shocked by her saying it publicly in a press release about his death. I guess it's Southern enough of me to think that even if he were a sonofabitch you basically bite your tongue and say "Bless his heart" [/you-know-that-means-they-were-terrible] (Southern Colloquillisms - rife with hypocritical codespeak for backhanded insults)
